My suggestion: follow the crate engine break in procedure starting at step #6 to seat the rings (steps 1-5 were done at the factory). Skip the step#10 oil change and then change the engine oil and the diff oil at 500 miles.

Everyone has their own point of view on this, but for me I think putting 5-8,000 miles or around a year of ownership should let you know if you have a dud. That's a little longer than most but it's just a factor of safety thing for me. Then have at it - the LT4 is pretty bulletproof otherwise - just have a competent tuner do his thing. It seems as if the oil pump issues are nearly non-existent on the newer vehicles. That's what I plan on doing anyways.
