100% agreed, and again, there is always the "burble" tune option.

+1 on this one. The more they touch it, the more chances to screw something up, plus the current tune is what they supplied in the first place and not something you requested ("more crackles please"), which is a safer place.

IMO the crazy pops and crackles are not worth bringing back, the 2016-2018 tune was spot on from this point of view, a few decel pops if you want them but not the obnoxious 30-second firecracker sequence on the 2019+.

On a different note, when you say "not as loud", did you just mean the pops or also general loudness? If the latter, inside the cabin or outside? If it's just a bit quieter and only inside the cabin, it could well be the sound tube deletion with your new engine that someone mentioned above.

A dealer would not put and older tune back in a car or even mess with it unless Gm had bulletin to do. And it would probably be go to an updated program not an old one. Most independent shops don’t have the ability to flash the ecu. The other thing is maybe the old engine had blown exhaust gaskets or cracked manifolds causing more noise. They fixed that issue when they did the new engine

Do they enter the serial number of the engine when flashing the ECM?
Perhaps you got a pre-2019 NOS engine as replacement.
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=524258

From the repair manual. there is a parameter for the ECM scan tool that displays this:
"Engine Serial Number Ignition ON # This parameter displays the
engine serial number."

No change to diff when going straight, the diff tune is to open the diff clutch more when turning. Doesn’t explain difference and me hearing more after could just be coincidence.

New engine and transmission.

It is not nearly as loud as it was prior to the engine blowing up. It hardly ever pops or crackles on over runs when it was almost embarrassing how often it did it before..any possible reason for this? I run it mostly in sport mode, and yes the actuators are open. Just wondering what might be a reason for this. Last week I drive it, putting away for winter this coming weekend.

I have 420 miles on a new engine...still breaking it in. any help appreciated...any criticism is not necessary.

Thanks.
Tuning removes crackles or adds it back.

From factory you get snap, crackles and pops, but after market engine install even if same engine and a tune can remove them

I think you are right....at about 510 miles into the new engine, there was a distinct change in exhaust note on overrun...crazy...and now it is put away for the winter...sigh...

Thanks for the input.

I know this is late, but thanks for the laugh. The only problem is I have to clean the coffee off my computer monitor.

2017 here and very few crackles and pops and then both the car and ambient temperature have to be cold. That’s pretty rare here. At the same time the other day I was watching a YouTuber with his 2022 and the amount of crackles and pops was actually over the top. May be one of those thin line situations.

Just saying, this is my experience as well. Give it some time for the new engine to break in and the sound will change to what you remember.
