USB Ports for dashcam

Are the two USB ports hot all the time? Or only when the key is on?
I want to use one port for my dashcam because I can hide the wires behind the console easily.

Technically neither, but for your purposes - they ports will remain powered for a short period after the car is turned off and then go dark.

If you want a dashcam with a Parking Mode where it can record if your car gets bumped or similar, you need to wire it to constant power. The Viofo dashcams (one example) have a special hardwire kit that allows them to work this way.

Thank you for the quick reply. The Dashcam I have doesn't have the bumped car option. (I don't think) I just didn't want it to stay powered up parked in my garage.

Have you measured the power draw on that camera and done any sort of math to know how quickly it will draw the voltage down on your battery in the car? If you want it running 24x7 whether the car is on or not, you should definitely know the impact your car's battery will feel from it.
