So weird. The recommended oil for this car is a moving target!

Most would have read it the other way not realizing they should use 710. Smart guy.

The oil thing with this car is confusing. I think the licensing/certification makes it even worse. You oils that "should" work in the car but are not approved because of the licensing.

Going by this here:
https://www.gmdexos.com/brands/dexos2/index.html

They are only listing 4 oils that work, and 3 pretty much look the same.

Castrol Edge - Castrol Ltd. - dexos2™ - 0W-40 - GB2C1214082
Mobil 1 ESP - ExxonMobil Oil Corp. - dexos2™ - 0W-40 - GB1A0917015
Mobil 1 ESP Formula - ExxonMobil Oil Corp. - dexos2™ - 0W-40 - D20679HJ015
Mobil 1 ESP x3 ExxonMobil Oil Corp. - dexos2™ - 0W-40 - D20682HJ015

I think it's pretty crazy to say "these are the only 4 approved oils."
With that said, GM and Exxon know way more than I do, and I'm not going to discover something profound using something else, so I'll keep it simple and just run the Mobil 1 in there.

If you track it, 0w-40 Dexos2, if you do NOT track it, Dexos1Gen2 or Dexos1Gen3 in 5w-30 is fine.

If you want to keep your warranty, use only dexos2 stuff. They will more than likely want receipts for oil changes if internals fail. Showing Amsoil or any other brand w/o the rating will almost guarantee a voided warranty.

If you do not want coked valves or detonation issues, use dexos2 or an equivalent.

If you do not care, use the cheapest stuff.

IIRC Castrol syntec is Dexos2 but not labeled on the bottle as such.

Absolutely untrue. My LT1 is only used on the street, and my manual says 5w-30 dexos1 can be used for street use. Therefore, should any warranty claim ever arise for internal failure, this page of my manual provides me full protection in my warranty being honored and retained.

Dexos2 for the race track, dexos1 for street use only. End of discussion.
