Drop a 620 bhp 416 in a 3100lb C5 and it's pretty quick! And with it being na, no heat soak. Throw on a big brake kit and it'll give a stock ZL1 a run for its $.

You forget about suspension work, wheels and tires. Those also need to be upgraded for the car to run at factory stock ZLE pace. Altogether with labor of swapping an engine, brakes, dialing in etc. you are looking at $60K+ budget with car included at current prices. And after all that "playing around" it might be able to match the speed of ZLE, which you can get for $70K brand new right now and with track warranty. Tough choice I would say.

This was my second track day with the car, first one was at Sebring in the rain. Car is fully stock, 6MT and running GM track alignment and RBF600 brake fluid. I use 15w50 mobil one oil for track and driving around town (FL climate allows not to swap back and forth with 0w40). Before this car I had an M3 and M5. Non of the M cars are track ready out of the box as this one. The only drawback I noticed so far is the fuel consumption. 5 twenty minute track sessions resulted in 5 trips to gas station lol, as the car was eating nearly 3/4 tank EVERY session. So getting a 5 Gal gas can is a must, this way you can skip every second trip. Other than that, car is a beast.

Looks like a lot of fun! I kind of hated seeing you get stuck behind a slower car like the Honda or the other cars that didn't seem road worthy, but I guess it would be boring if every car out on the track had the same capabilities.

There's a local track here called Motorsports Ranch. I've seen it a few times and even went inside to see about membership. The costs for membership are a little more than I would personally pay, but it seems like a lot of fun.
