I got into the SS 1LE from an F80 M3, which was almost 4/3rds the cost of the SS 1LE. In the M3 I felt I over paid and it underdelivered. In the SS 1LE, I felt I under paid and it over delivered. The GT4 I have high expectations for and from all the reviews I have seen on it and it's laps times, it should be a winner.

Probably not.
I don't have the means for multiple cars so the GT4 will be my daily driver and only car. Too much financial risk with track driving your only car. Plus with the appreciation values right now, if it got totaled, I would lose a lot of money on the insurance pay-out. Since I am paying MSRP, It has already appreciated by about $20K in the current market. I enjoy the back roads and canyon carving. I also specced PCCB's and will NOT be using them up on the track , as they are $20K to replace. I do plan on doing the Porsche Experience Center in LA this summer though. I will tear up their cars, not mine.

A bit of an aside, but isn't insurance payout usually based on current value replacement? Meaning, if it would cost you X to buy a "like replacement" now, they would pay X regardless of you having initially paid Y? Or would that be only for car insurance policies where you mutually agree to a certain value of the car ahead of time? I believe they do that for older collectibles, for example. ![]() Geoff |

I think you're right but I bet it's an almighty battle to get an insurance company to pay FMV when it is over MSRP. |

For track you buy a policy for an agreed-on value. Would be a lot of cash to insure that GT4, I bet ~$500/day.

Congratulations on the new purchase. Beautiful car. I’m glad you intend to stick around. You tend to offer great advise and viewpoints.

Probably more. It's costing me ~ $ 450 for a weekend to get $55K worth of coverage. I'd bet it would be at least double that to cover the GT4. It costs > $100K, no?

It's expensive but there's nothing about driving a car on track that's cheap!

I really don't track as I also fly and flying is an expensive hobby already. I am fine with going to the PECLA and using their cars for a day for my occasional track fix. Also, I can drive other cars than the GT4. They also have the Turbo and the GT3 avail. depending on the program you choose. That to me is the smarter way to spend $1000 for a track day.

Wow, that is a great upgrade. Have a track buddy that runs a GT4 Clubsport MR competition model and that thing flies.
