i agree...only the first crate motor replacement on the 2018 got the full monty.....all coolers and exhaust back to the cats were replaced...after that they really lost interest in doing a textbook repair...glenn

i think that the 1le is not a dry sump and causes problems when tracking...especially if the track has a lot of tight turns...glenn

haha, I am on my third engine in a 2019 1LE. A piston broke at the top of 4th on the front straight of Road America last year. Last month did the exact same thing at the exact same spot. Just picked it up last weekend.

One theory I remember surfacing the last time this topic came up (with the Road America example - maybe this was you B4?), was the (wet sump) oil not be baffled well enough. Long uphill front straight at Road America will tend to hold high RPMs (4th gear?) due to the slower rate of acceleration. Combine that with uphill, and maybe the oil is shifting to the back?

I run VIR frequently, and has me wondering about the long back-straight (uphill, 4th gear, with redline occuring at the the crest of the hill). Maybe I should shift to 5th a bit earlier?

i decided that short shifting was definitely the way to go...at NOLA there is a short straight that can go right up to redline...i used to take 3rd all the way to the turn but i now shift quickly into 4th and then back to 3rd...no real effect on lap time

the 2018 track manual supplement said 15w50 could be used for track only...now i use only 0w40 which my 2021 manual required...i really don't think oil is the problem

what dealer did you use for the engine replacements? so far every dealer I've talked to tried to flag me for track use. Road America will be my "home track in a few months"

crate motor #3 installed and it pegs over 50 psi oil pressure when 1st started...now I start the claim for my 6 speed tranny...when the previous engine was removed (for replacement with crate 3) the tranny tech said the tranny was going out...sure enough GM refused replacement...I got the new engine and have approx. 350 miles on breakin but tranny is squealing... so the process starts over

That's concerning if true. My home track is Mosport (now Canadian Tire Motorsports Park), and the back straight is long and up-hill, coming out of turn 5 in 2nd at ~45 mph and topping out at redline in 4th by the end. As a very rough estimate, I've probably done at least 150 to 200 laps there so far with no issues to date

No PDR or other datalogging for these blown engines? One issue I recall reading about that led to a blown engine was over-reving on downshifts.

99-1 this right here. If u can't see that it is clean, you replace it if the engine ate itself. Our cars hold 10 qrts, if it was a baffle problem or oil crawling up the back of the pan, we would see more of them happen.

I am curious though, anyone willing to do it again in the same spot?

I posted a screenshot of my PDR data from the full cosworth toolkit and it all was fine right until it wasn't. The dealership checked the ECU for overrevs and the counter was 0 documented in my write-up.
