I believe that is unless you bought your car used? Then you are smogging every 2 years.

My stock c6 corvette was failled because the smog tech thought it was modded. two other smog techs saw it failed and didnt want to even bother smogging it. huge pain.

The other issue is you can get pulled over and if you are modified (even just exhaust) they can send you to the state ref. the state ref will go through your car to make sure you are compliant so your car has to be stock or of course have carb eo parts and now no tune.
I was told by a shop owner he's been cited multiple times, paid the fine and moved on. They can send you to the ref, but he said that's rare. As long as they get their money they're good. This is only one guy tho, not sure of other peoples experiences, personally have never dealt with it...yet

I would stay with the stock blower but that’s just my opinion.

If you want to stay CARB legal, I don't think it's worth it, because you'll have to use Magnuson's canned CARB tune, which will likely be underwhelming, at least it was suboptimal for the 2300. So you'll spend a truckload of money for a relatively small gain, plus you can't change anything in the tune even afterwards.

In all honesty, if I lived in CA, I'd spend the money you're about to plop down for the 2650R on tires or track days or some other mods.

Worth noting the LT4 in the Blackwing has a revised lid and intake. It also uses a new ECU (Global B). I'm pretty certain if the same gains could be made on the ZL1/Z06 LT4, we'd all know by now.

Alas, they would need to be non-performance mods—unless I'm mistaken, there isn't much one can do without a tune that actually increases hp or torque. I have the Velossa air snorkel, for example, but it doesn't really make a difference in terms of performance.

Lighter wheels, suspension upgrades such as solid rear cradle bushings, or simple exterior mods such as aero components come to mind. Perhaps a Soler throttle body and/or throttle controller to create the illusion of more power, however, these are all fairly subjective.

I have only heard of people getting ref if they are caught racing, exhibiting speed, etc. This could be very expensive though if you need to take a cam out or something like that.

I got exhaust tickets twice a while ago though. these were just fix it tickets. first time i got pulled over for tinted windows. they called 4 police cars, had me get out of the car, made me feel like a felon. i got 2 fix it tickets, for front plate and exhaust. second time i prob deserved it.. i was in SF following a friend and i followed him through a stale yellow light sideways in my whippled 03 cobra it was actually loud. got pulled over by a hiding moto cop.

you dont need to always use the carb compliant maggy tune. as long as you are willing to swap tunes and easy/fast mods, you could always put stock pulley, intake, maggy CARB tune, etc on the car, drive until all monitors are ready to test, test and go back to your e85 or w/e tune.

I know I’m opening a can of worms here, but i believe i could get away with a ported blower since (correct me if I’m wrong) it doesn’t require a tune, and it would pass the visual test. Worthwhile mod?

I have a built LT1 with a Maggie 2300 and never had the LT4, so I can't competently comment on this. However, here's a post from someone who knows what he's doing, and the gains from porting alone don't look impressive: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...20&postcount=1

I wonder if Blackwing also has wide band O2 sensors like the C8 that can account for the extra air without tuning?
