So here is my issue with my garage (Which I built). Not knowing when I built it I built it 24x28. 28 Deep because I put in attic trusses with a 4' stair case going upstairs. The space upstairs is awesome and the extra 4' deep gave me the room for that. Now I want a 3rd stall and I can't because I can only have 860 sq/ft.. Basically your 24x32 3 car garage. Because I already added an extra 24x4 to my garage that only leaves me enough space to add a 10x14 spot. Not big enough for another stall. All I can do is move...

I do not but by looking at your picture you have a different circumstance than I do. I could easily put up a 3rd bay or car port if needed. But if I had a dedicated winter vehicle I would not pay the $95 per month to keep it somewhere. While $95 is "not a lot of money" it adds up quick for a lot of other things I would rather do/have. A dedicated summer vehicle would just live in my garage in the winter. $1200 is lot of money for "storage".

EDIT: But I do get why you do it.

Ya, that is a big part of my hang up. I do not have a dedicated winter vehicle. I have a Tahoe I bought brand new in '18. ( I think it has 20k miles on it now?) That is my DD and the Camaro is the "fun car". (Stored Winters) So in spring/summer/fall when I am using the Camaro, my '18 Tahoe (unless I want to use it for something... trip... etc) sits in my storage unit. Winter, then the Camaro goes there.

If I was fine with leaving my Tahoe outside all day every day it would be a different story for me. I'm just not OK with that. That weather will rot the thing away. I know...I've been in WI my entire life.

For $hits and Grins I just checked Vroom and Carvana. Wow their offers have come way down. Vroom is $32,700 and Carvana is $28,370. When I checked early spring Vroom was up to $38,500.

There is no way my 9' ceilings in my garage are tall enough for that. the garage door would open up into the top vehicle.
I believe my ceilings are a tad over 10ft. With a 9ft ceiling, there is no way a Tahoe would fit under there. My wife has a Toyota RAV 4 and because of the stupid satellite radio antenna not having any give, it just barely fits under. Camaros and most cars I have no issue with, but unless you have at least 11-12 ft ceiling, I don't see a Tahoe fitting.

Ya.. I have only 3 real options...

1) Keep paying the storage unit... (which... I'm 50% ok with)
2) Move to a different place where I have or can build more storage. (With my retirement goal and age, this is just not in the cards)
3) Keep the Tahoe outside, back it out of the way, get the Camaro out and then put the Tahoe back. (or leave it on the street).

Option 4) Sell the Camaro stop the storage rent and forget the idea of a "fun car". Keep riding the Harley... But gall damb I love my SS...

i don't know your physical setup or available space, but have you considered a covered parking area in front/next to the garage for the tahoe? maybe a fancy lean-to type thing? i completely understand your leave-no-vehicle-outside mentality. the sun especially will absolutely destroy vehicles.

my dd is a real pos and even i refuse to let it sit outside. i basically got rid of 3 other vehicles in the last 3 years for the option to keep at least 2 inside. i could get 3 cars in the garage, but part of it is storage which has since spilled over into my dining room.

The lean-to "might" be an option. I can put a concrete slab, but covered can't be more then the 860 sq/ft. I'd have to inquire with the city if a lean-to qualifies as a structure. I've honestly thought about putting the slab in with anchors for a sill plate and walls... Then put up the walls and roof later. Kind of like do it and then see if they ever say anything. If from the front it looks like a standard 3 car garage, maybe I'd get lucky.. LOL.

I can't see myself selling the SS, so for now I'll continue to rent the storage unit.

good luck with whatever you do.

i've been bouncing around on the struggle bus for almost 2 years on where & how to build this garage. i finally get the gall and materials go thru the roof, oh well. home stuff is not fun, i just want ample space to do car things. i have a decent plot of land but also have 60-80' mature trees everywhere. it's awesome and i don't want to cut them down for a garage, they provide copious amounts of shade and frankly they are very expensive to fall.

Home stuff has gone through the roof, worse then auto stuff. We have plenty of land... we have 40 acres of land... problem is, it's 2.5 hours north of us. lol... Oh well... our real world problems right. . Do I keep a car I don't "need" and pay for a storage unit to keep it... I'm happy to have those types of "problems". So many people are not as fortunate.

I mentioned to you once that watching my 13 ZL1 sitting in the garage depreciate (undriven) brought me to the decision to drive it, or sell it. I've opted for drive it with every Camaro I've owned since.

Your storage situation is another nail in the coffin

We live in a condo with a single garage bay. We have her SUV, my truck, and the Camaro. With the Camaro being a convertible, there's absolutely no way it will ever sit outside overnight anywhere because of the risk of damage/theft alone.

When the Camaro is "at home", it gets the garage and her SUV sits outside. When the weather won't allow for driving it for a while, it goes to storage. Having the Camaro home is the only time my truck is ever out of the elements because IT goes into the storage unit when I pick up the Camaro.

I pay $150/month for mine and don't think twice about the cost. When we move, we will have a 2.5-3 car garage as part of the house or we won't buy it.

For your situation, have you considered cutting the foundation and adding an extension to one side or something? I looked into converting the 2.5 car attached garage at my last house into a full 3 car (a double deep bay on one side) and the cost was around the same as building a full 15x20 detached garage conforming to "shed" guidelines.

I wouldn't sell the car over 95.00 a month storage if you enjoy it. If you no longer drive it and it sits, then yes maybe it's time to move on. I am sure if you look hard at your spending you can find other things that you waste 1200.00 a year that you could do without.
