My car is a 1SS, only option is the NPP exhaust. I absolutely love the dual mode functionality and honestly think it may be the single best option to get. I don't really miss the leather seats or any of the luxury items from the 2SS package, though I will admit that the ride on the factory run flats is terrible. Mag ride would have been cool, but the ride improved significantly when I switched to PS4S tires. Keep in mind, I still have a young spine, so ride quality/comfort merely has to be "good enough" for me.
Complaint: I do not care for the shape of the seats that come standard in the 1SS and 2SS. The are ok for trips under 2 hours, but long road trips can get exhausting. Mine are cloth, so I don't slide around in them, but I suspect the 1le package may be worth it for the recaros alone given that's where you spend all your time in the car. Though recaro seats were a stand alone option if I recall correctly. For my money, I'd rather do a base 1SS with the 1le package than go for the 2SS + mag ride. Price works out to be about the same and it will come with the better front seats, mag ride, and npp exhaust, as well as an eLSD, nicer wheels and more aggresive tires (won't say better since they will only last ~10k miles lol), PDR /HUD and some appearance goodies. Like I said, the leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and whatever other luxuries come with a 2SS just don't mean as much to me as the other things listed here. Will say, kinda wish my 1SS had blind spot monitoring. Not a huge deal for me since the side mirrors provide surprisingly good visibility, but would have been nice. |

Why would I pay more for my SS to have an optional softer ride when the stock ride isn't even harsh? I don't want my SS to ride like a caddy.

I felt virtually no difference between comfort and race in the SS 1LE I drove.. granted it was a pretty short drive.

I have both of these "contested" options, magnetic ride control and dual mode exhaust, on my SS. The car originally came with Goodyear runflats.
MRC (option code F55) is great, there is a tangible difference between its tour, sport and track modes. None of them makes the car ride like a Cadillac, though, even tour is relatively firm compared to a higher end SUV or luxury sedan, but fits the car very well and is comfortable enough. The factory runflat tires do worsen ride quality plus they are loud, both improved significantly on my car after switching to Michelin PS4S. The dual mode exhaust (option code NPP) with its valve control and modes that can be decoupled from the overall drive mode is very nice to have, there is a separate stealth mode that makes the car more "neighbor friendly" when, for example, you start it up at 5:30am to go to work. Unless, of course, you want the car to be loud all the time, which is not possible with this option, the valves do close even in track mode. Actually, you can pull a fuse to disable valve control and keep it in "loud mode" all the time, but then why get NPP in the first place ![]() Some Random Guy, from your two posts it seems you would have a chronic case of "feature skip regret" if you didn't option in these two, along with the safety tech (meaning you want to go 2SS or ZL1).

Back in June of 2017, I purchased a 2017 1SS A8 new. Only option was NPP. I loved the car, but after I purchased a super reliable second vehicle for myself, I started to crave a manual transmission again. I also had always truly wanted the leather interior and Bose stereo, but prior to buying my daily driver Jeep GC, I convinced myself that I didn’t want those options that badly, or the rest of the features that the 2SS adds.
However, a perfect storm hit a few months ago. Not only did I have a great daily driver, but the price of used 6th gens went up considerably. I owned my 2017 1SS outright, and had just under 5K miles on it. I decided that, if I could get what I paid for it or more, I would sell it to an on line dealer, finish paying of my Jeep GC, then have a huge down payment to put towards the right M6 2SS. I thought about a new one, but I love the front ends of the 16-18’s. I ended up selling my 2017 1SS A8 for $1000 more than I paid for it new! I then began the replacement 6th gen search. It didn’t take long, about 3 weeks, but I found the perfect Camaro for me. I fought for a decent price on it for a week, then got it right. I bought a barely used 2018 2SS Hot Wheels Edition with the M6. It was loaded with everything from a moonroof to Mag Ride plus NPP and even alcantra package. It only has 1300 miles on it too. Getting these options, along with what the 2SS comes with (leather, upgraded stereo, heated and vented seats, interior lighting package, HUD, blindspot monitoring, etc) ended up being the 6th gen I always truly wanted. I will be buried in this car. lol This all being said, the moral of the story is: Don’t try to kid yourself. Get what you truly want, as long as it’s affordable for you, and don’t waste a day waiting, unless you have to. We only get one go around, and life flies by!

Thanks again everyone. I think it will be a 2SS with magnetic and the NPP. I didn’t realize the dual exhaust had a quiet mode, I assumed it was loud and louder. Sorry I’m on a phone and can’t quote everyone.
I will probably be fine with the regular seats. I had the Alcantra in my last car and wasn’t crazy about it. I think I’m going white everything with the RS package. Roads here are pretty good, but my commute is back roads so they’re not exactly new. Tires are not out of the question once I’ve had the vehicle a bit. My wife’s Colorado is the road trip/comfortable car. My Wrangler is actually pretty comfortable now that it’s on 39” tires, if you can get over the dirt everywhere. Unfortunately I just learned the dealership here changed hands. I’m trying to track down the person we bought the Colorado from to see if he’s still there. I didn’t even have to haggle, I told him what my wife wanted when she got home from Afghanistan and he ordered exactly that and gave me a price under invoice. In/out in 15 minutes with a diesel redline on order and no surprises when she showed up to complete the purchase. I anticipate he’ll at least be honest with me about price he can offer under current market/management. I did get lucky and was able to sell my 3 year old BRZ with 11k miles after a catastrophic wreck and repair for only $2k under what I bought it for. As for the convertible, I was only looking at it because when I test drove 1LS and 1SS back to back I was floored by the lack of visibility to the rear and sides. I think I got used to sitting high in my Wrangler and being able to pick lines through rocks because I could see the ground. When I saw the 2SS came with the camera view rear mirror I thought that might make me feel more comfortable in the coupe. Plus it had quite a few more features for a similar price to the convertibles I was looking at. 1LE is not an option here in WA due to the copper content in the brakes. Plus I’m trying to be honest I probably won’t track it enough for that to be worth it, even if I wait for the 2022’s. |

I wish I got the 2SS package with mag ride and NPP. I sadly settled for 1SS and NPP.

You would never mistake a sports car like an SS for the ride quality of a family car? No kidding? Really?

There were literally comparisons of mag ride making the car ride like a Cadillac in this thread. Not sure what you're missing here. If I'm on an interstate or a road with fresh pavement, sure, the ride is great. But on a road that's not in the greatest condition, you feel every crack. Run flats do not do any favors with the stiff sidewall. And if you read my first post, my entire point was that the ride was good enough after a tire change.
