No chance I would ever take my vehicles there for an oil change.

My camaro is brand new so I'll take it to the dealer for the 1st oil change but after that I will probably either do it myself or if the dealer or local tire store has a sale I will take it there. The Tire store we've known the manager for years (I think everybody does because he knows his stuff and always goes out of his way to help people out)

I wouldn't get hung up on the brand as much as the people actually doing the work as long as the store is insured and at lease somewhat reputable.
Yep. Pretty much what popped into my head upon opening the thread. Plenty of dealerships that I won't let touch my cars because of this.

Not true. As above, it all depends on who's on staff and who's on the clock when you go in. And, for private mechanics that work out of single bay shops, they're pretty experienced and do it all.

Really? $15/quart is a great price? That's how much the product actually sold by Walmart is. Third-party sellers that ship to you sell for much less.

Not the OEM 0W-40 dexos2 you don't... You're buying dexos1 Gen2 at that price...

Nothing revolutionary in that $15 per quart formula, they can rob someone else. Ill keep changing mine every 2.5K miles with the "cheaper Mobil stuff" Keep fresh oil in it longer and my wallet happier.

Completely irrelevant whether there's anything 'revolutionary' or not... You stated you were buying the OEM oil. You are not.

There's nothing at all bad about dexos1 Gen2 for street use. GM actually recommends 5W-30 for that.

Yes, for street use or colder temperatures.. 5W-30 is often the way to go, which is why I use it. I've used the Mobil 1 oil for many years, in various performance vehicles, and it really is excellent. You can't really go "wrong" with either. For consistent higher temps or track use, I would go with the 0W-40 IMO.

Not going to lie, wasn't aware that stuff was OEM. Wouldn't make sense that the 2016-2019 used an OEM oil that was over 3 times cheaper than the 2020-2022 when it is the exact same engine in all model years. Just seems like a clever tactic to try to draw more financially out of the uninformed comsumer.

GM switched over in recent years - they did use the 5W-30 previously. Many of our cars have the 5W-30 oil cap on them, and I've also heard where dealers will swap the caps for the )W-40... The Mobil 1 5W-30 isn't necessarily a "cheap" oil, but it can often be found at lower because it is readily available (and readily used).

I know they switched viscosity from 5w-30 to 0w-40, just didn't know that the latter OEM formula goes for over 3X as much as the original OEM formula. That simply does not make sense considering the engine has not changed. Seems like a scheme to purchase overpriced glorified oil.

The change was because of the lawyers.

0W-40 dexos2 has always been the oil for track use while 5W-30 dexos1 has always been fine for street use. GM changed their guidance on oil from "Use 5W-30 and switch to 0W-40 for the track" to "Use 0W-40 but 5W-30 is fine for street use." The guidance for matching each oil to its use is the same, but defaulting to the 'track oil' reduces claims for damage due to track use with street oil (because the owner didn't change as was required because no one reads manuals).
