Go with your gut. I test drove 2 manual 19 SSs and didn’t bite on either. Drove an A10 and knew I just preferred it and was ready to sign the papers. I still don’t regret it.

The car I bought has the V8 and six speed manual, but I liked the transmission in the rental I had - as automatic transmissions go, it was really good. Particularly if you drive the car mainly on the road, I can 100% see the appeal of it, even with the V8. Still, if what you really want is a manual, then just keep looking. No one really needs a Camaro, so if you're going to the trouble and expense of owning one, it should be the car you really want, particularly if your old one is fixed (under warranty?) and drivable again. |

I know you're being facetious, but the EVs I've driven feel more like manual gearboxes than automatics. You don't shift gears or depress a clutch, but because there's no torque converter, the transfer of torque from the motor to the wheels is much more immediate than an automatic, and they usually have a mode where they'll engine brake like a sports car. Even good automatics usually seem to be reluctant to do that.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned the manual mode in the A8 and A10. And no...I'm not talking about using the tap-shift paddles behind the steering wheel. In my opinion, using these is not much like driving a manual transmission at all. I'm talking about using the shifter, both for putting the car in manual mode (slap it to the left) AND for up/down-shifting.
Now, before everyone protests that only someone who hasn't driven a stick would compare these two, I owned two manual transmission Camaros, a 1983 Berlinetta (5-speed) that I drove for 20 years and a 2002 Z28 (6 speed) that I drove for 7 years. Using the shifter (push forward to up-shift and pull back to down-shift) is very satisfying in terms of having control over what gear you're in and when. You can downshift with perfect rev matching every time, and switch back to automatic mode immediately whenever you want. Closest experience to driving a manual you can get in an automatic--just no clutch. Best of both worlds! Yes, driving a pure manual and knowing how to blend gas with clutch is a point of pride and really enjoyable, but not dramatically more enjoyable than manual mode in the automatic. I've also found maintenance costs for my automatic transmission Camaros (a 2010 2SS and my current 2017 2SS) to be lower, so far. My two cents...

Takes an hour or so to get used to it. Maybe a few days of driving in manual mode to reach proficiency.
Now I pretty much drive in manual mode every time. Just let the car warm up for a few minutes first, then go for it!

My previous 3 Camaro have all been 6sp manuals. Saw the deal on the 10spd LT1 and had to test drive it before deciding. I don't use the no lift shift so it's much quicker then the manual. It more than made up for it for me. Waiting on it to come in.

This will be a tricky thing to answer.
Over on the CorvetteForum, there is a giant thread on C8 and manual transmission. There was a very good reply that basically said that there are two types of people: - People who decided to go automatic and never looked back - People who decided to go automatic and enjoyed it at first but eventually wanted to be back in a manual Only time will tell which one of them you will be. If you like it enough, you can give it a whack and see what happens. That's really the only way to know it yourself. I need to try the A10 at some point. Heard good things about it, and it could give me a bit of a different perspective. Oh and BTW, M6 in the Camaro is a bit better to use than the M7 in the C7. Most people who have driven the manual trans version of both cars will concur with my opinion. Sent from toaster or something

The only regrets you'll have is either "manual fever", or if the A10 doesn't function properly within a few thousand miles.

Yeah, but manuals will probably return in EVs, believe it or not. Most manufacturers at the moment don't see room for more than one gear, but Porsche already came out with a two-speed EV. It's only a moment before we see 4-speeds, 6-speeds, or 10-speed EVs. But if they do bring back manuals, they probably won't be performance orientated as those days are long gone.

I stay in manuals because the difference for me is in the experience. In a manual the car needs my input, and more skillful input increases my enjoyment. Each manual car has its quirks, and it simply takes more skill to drive a manual efficiently than it does to drive an auto efficiently. This skill and its improvement is what I’m after. That goes for my 53, my Camaro, and my 370. All are manual and all are fun to drive cars that involve a different challenge.

All my fun cars are manual trans, but I prefer the paddles for virtual racing. Go with your gut here.
Had a PDK type transmission been available I might have picked that option, but I've never been satisfied with the paddle shifted torque converter transmissions.
