They should have made it more like a toggle than a switch so that it just stays "pulled up" when it's engaged. I think that would solve a lot of the issues!

I always engage my parking brake when I drive the car to work, as I park on a slightly downward slope (drainage issues for parking lot).

I always put car in park, engage parking brake, let it engage, but when I let off the brake, the car rolls forward slightly before hitting a "lock"

it did this in my 17 2ss, and does in my 18 zl1.

I have went to drive off (in reverse) several times and forgetting (in both cars), and it never hits a stop, I always see it auto disengaging itself while I slap myself in the forhead.

The fact that I might not have engaged the parking brake and left it in gear is possible. But I am so used of putting the parking brake on, it is unlikely that it is what happened. But maybe.

Pretty sure it is not the hill assist. It was downhill, so normally the assist would not engage.

And surely I didn't disengage the parking brake by accelerating cause I put the car in neutral right after starting it knowing I would set something on my phone. I never attempted to lift the clutch while in gear.

So unless a bug or defect in the parking brake system, the only thing I could see is what people pointed which is the parking brake actually not set when turning the car off.

I started waiting for the red PARK light on the dash to appear before exiting the car after finding multiple times that it is possible to pull the crappy switch just enough that it clicks mechanically but not quite enough for the electrical connection to actually engage and trigger the parking brake.

Luckily for me no car in front.

I literally didn't touch the parking brake button. I tried to hit it as if I could have hit it with my elbow or whatever, but nothing. If I had touched it by mistake, it should have done nothing since I didn't have the foot on the brake (the car wouldn't haveoved in this case).

Tried to replicate the thing by starting the car and pressing on the brake pedal and do whatever could cause the problem, nothing.

Has anyone had the same issue? Kinda worried the parking brake would fail at any time.

I don't trust electrical stuff like that . I feel more secure with a mechanical brake. I trust putting it in first gear more than my brake. Ain't going nowhere in first gear.

The hand brake is convenient for that yes, but I better like the sleek look of the interior without it.

I always put it in gear on top of having the parking brake; double assurance.

In an automatic, the parking brake should be engaged first, foot brake released to set tension, THEN put in Park. Otherwise, you're still putting all of the pressure on the parking pawl in the transmission. The process you outlined is fine for manual transmission models.

The car I had that had EPB always looked like something was missing, without a handle or even a foot pedal in sight for P-brake actuation. Cars are mechanical devices that should really retain some mechanical imagery about their controls, lest people treat them and their driving with no more thought or respect than they give to their kitchen appliances.

It's not like the side of the driveshaft tunnel is useful for anything else, though I'll never fully understand why Chevy insisted on leaving the P-brake lever over on the passenger side for the US 5th gen like it would be for a home-market Australian car.

The alpha chassis accepts advanced electronics packages that allow for things like radar cruise and autonomous braking. These systems require an electronic parking brake as once the vehicle is stopped this must be deployed to secure it in order to pass certifications and make these technologies available on thier models.

They wouldn't do a 1977 style handbrake just for a small segment of enthusiasts that think this is how you become a drift king.

I always back into my garage and I just before I get to my stopping point, I apply the ebrake to stop rolling backwards so I know it's engaged. Just have to time it right so you stop where you want to stop...otherwise it's twice the work. lol.
