So by your logic an AMG S600 should run about $17,500 including tax and fees.

One question, if the doors are unlocked when the battery is disconnected, don't they remain unlocked?

Yes. The OP can just roll his windows down and open both doors, then disconnect the battery, and he’ll never have to worry about locking himself out.
