The C7 Z06s they are selling, which are 3LZ models, are at a very good price and a bit lower than a non-Hertz Z06.

Anyways, ever heard of the '66 GT350H? Yes it was sent back to Ford for refurbishing but it was a rental none the less and they are worth $100k at the lower end of the scale.

Could the ZL1 or Z06 be in the same boat as that? Maybe. Only 24 of each are in circulation right? Compared to the 1000 of the '66 GT350H. It all depends on what happens in the next 20-30 years.

The parts I don't get it is why a car with stickers on it and off the shelf mods would end up being a collectible. This is pretty different from a 66 GT350 IMO in a lot different ways. Rarity does not always equal desirability.

Also, I never really understood holding on to a car for 20 to 30 plus years paying for insurance, storage and upkeep is thought to be a decent investment. Even in today's uncertain times, I'm sure you could get a lot better of return on your 80k in other investments over that 20-30 years time period.

If you have eff you money and just like collecting cars for the fun of it, then I definitely get that aspect of it.

Agreed, I have walked from a few cars because I ran a car fax and found them to be rentals once in there car life.

Ugly - why would a bumblebee Hertz rental ever be collectible? Collectible to someone with zero taste. Mods add zero value

True... always smarter to not buy cars!

Hah... I'm sure the same was said for the Shelby GT Hertz cars in the 60's!

At the end of the day... this is a Calloway SC750, built special for Hertz by Rick Hendrick Racing... and only 24 examples built.

I think we see these pull some serious coin in the future. Heck... Shelby 'GT' Hertz cars (which were just a Mustang GT with some Shelby items)... are still $50K from 2016!

I think it's really cool they did something like this... they could have just done 'stock ZL1's... not Calloway SC750 + Rick Hendrick Motorsports.

And I think they turned out really sharp:

Best regards,
Dave

I wish I was smarter and had cheaper a hobbie sometimes, but I've got the car disease like everyone else here.

I'm doing the double whammy and getting a boat next week. I apparently hate money.

they are Calloway SC750 package ZL1's to start (that's $87K),
then you have Rick Hendrick's Motorsports doing the unique touches to the interior and exterior
then you have 1 of only 24 EVER made from Hertz
All covered under factory GM warranty as well

These cars with lower miles will easily become serious collectibles.

Dave

I looked at them a couple days ago; it was fairly high mileage, not low mileage. The Z06s had 32k+ miles iirc, except for one, and that one had nearly 20k miles...now none of the ZL1s are on the site though. The Z06s were on par with the normal cost of a Z06 though.
How would the GM warranty apply if they swapped out the supercharger and everything? In reading through the ads for them on their site, it said the warranty was from hertz, which is useless if they go bankrupt obviously. Maybe they just didnt point it out on the site.
Hell, they want 50k for the SS....ridiculous amount, and to top it off, they have a horrible color scheme to them imo. But, in either case, hendrick motorsports doing the upgrades means absolutely zero; mods don't add value at all, as has already been pointed out. To me, the mods actually take away from things, not add to it.

Not worth it to me whatsoever for 77k, especially it being a given that they had the crap kicked out of them as rentals, from a crappy rental place none-the-less (in my experience using them anyways). If I drop 30k into my ZL1, even if I had the same company do it, it isn't adding any real value onto the car, its just burning money for upgrades.

I'm not sure on the Camaros, but the Corvettes had a 75 Mile Rental Limit on them. So it's not like they were taken to the Track for the weekend. I bet the Corvettes were rented by more Old-Farts that you could count and they weren't driven that hard. I would also think that the maintenance was much higher than the KIA on the lot. If the Corvettes have the Factory Warranty, it might not be bad. But they are Ugly, I would Have to wrap one

You looked at the Camaro’s? They showed 3k miles and 1,800 miles. The Calloway Supercharger is still covered under the factory warranty.

I was not impressed with the corvette deals, stock Z06 are dime a dozen. The Calloway Hertz Hendrick ZL1 is different imo.

Best Regards,
Dave

I mistyped the first time and was thinking of the Z06 mileage; corrected my comment on that
But I seem to recall the ZL1 mileage being higher than that on the ones listed at the time. But, in either case, not a chance I'd pay 77k for it at all.

The Hertz special edition cars have a documented history of bringing a premium collectible value over time. These cars are made to run hard. They will hold up unless the abuse was really bad. A PPI by a competent buyer can easily put concerns of previous abuse to rest.

Having said that, I agree that they are ugly as hell. The stripe package is vinyl. I’d remove it till I was ready to sell and then re-vinyl it.

If I had the money, I'd buy one in a Chevy Heartbeat...ok, that was corny!
However, I would purchase one simply for track use and not collection purposes...I buy to enjoy!
So, it really wouldn't matter much if it was rented or not, and with such low miles it's a bargain. Plus I'm sure Hertz would have maintained these cars on schedule.
Oh well, I don't have the money, so no worries for me...

I don’t think you can compare collectability of old muscle cars to newer ones. Old sold new for $4000-$8000 back in the late 60’s, 70’s and some worth $250000 or more now. Now you pay $60000 to $100000 for new and what’s it going to be worth in 30 years? Factor in the $500 a year to insure and another $100 a year to plate = $600 year x 30 years is another $18000. Not including any maintenance, gas and space in garage so it can just sit. To me it’s just not a good investment. That said, its neat that they did them.

In 30 years I'll be long dead and gone.....to reap the "collector" car money......a 10 year old needs to be buying it.....lol
