It would take several miles to hit that. Mine basically stopped having discernable acceleration at 178, rode it our about another half mile and hit 180.

At VIR on the back straight I’ve been 168 letting out before the 5. The highest speed I’ve seen with a ZLE (virtually same DA) driving past the 3 marker is 162. If I kept my foot in it another 200 + feet I’m certain I would have been 170. This is comparing an A10 ZL1 to manual ZLE so the mph is probably a little skewed but just a real world comparison. ZLE is definitely quicker in regards to lap time.

A ZL1 is going to MPH the shit out of a ZLE on a long straight, the ZLE just gets to brake later and has more grip. Auto or manual doesn't matter. The Auto ZL1 will still hit higher MPH than an auto ZLE. The cars have two different purposes. The ZL1 is arguably the best all around car money can buy. The ZLE is arguably one of the best track cars ever made. We all win, both cars are nuts compared to anything at their price point, past or present.

There are more players in this game than just aero.

With that said, I believe that the Chevrolet official top speed of ZL1 is 198, ZLE is 190. fastestlaps.com concurs.

For me, chopping off top end speed for some serious bite in the corners is a fair trade.

I own a ZLE, no way in hell that car will hit 190. It hits a brick wall at 178 to 180. Another half mile from 178 got me 180. Another 3 miles could not have hit 190 IMO. No way the ZLE will hit 190.

As do I.

Perhaps ZLE is the wrong weapon for 180+, RR, runway days and mile/.5 mile/.25 mile.

With a good driver 1/2 mile or less would be fun from a roll. From a dig 1/4 mile a ZLE would be eaten alive by a ZL1.1/2 mile would depend on driver. IMO

I would like to add that the 180 in the ZLE is a lot less scary than 180 in the ZL1. The 180 in the ZL1 is pretty spooky as it isn't as buttoned down. Still not as scary as some cars at that speed but not confident. Anyone that says cars aren't spooky at that speed have lost their minds. But the ZLE does a better job at those speeds.

Why do you think it would be eaten alive from a dig?

The ZLE doesn't do races from a dig well. The tires and suspension are not set up for the 1/4 mile. A ZL1 is car better suited for drag racing than the ZLE. I own a ZLE it isn't a drag car by any stretch of the imagination. You will burn up the clutch before you ever best a ZL1 from a dig. Or you will plant your ZLE into the wall of the track because you didn't lift when the road course tires gave up and said **** you.

Probably very skewed if trannies are not the same.

Power vs power.. At no rolling speed does the manual ever benefit over the 10spd.

Oh for sure. Another factor that reduces my "delta horsepower" (making the cars closer) estimate are the drag and other frictional losses that are not quadratic with speed. I've been assuming the generated torque from the motor either accelerates the car or pushes against quadratic drag. There's probably a significant amount of it going in to roll resistance and changes in the drag coefficient as well.

So what causes the drag and effect on top speed? Is the dive planes or is it the rear wing?
