Yes you must be vawy vawy careful, as Elmer Fudd would say.

GM has little drones flying around house to house checking on ECM tampering so keep an eye out your window

But if you cover your car with a lead blanket your good

This is a hobby like any other if you want to modify your car you must be willing to accept the responsibility that goes along with it.

Back to the Cheating scenario, don't do it you will get caught.

Just having a little fun here.

Ted.

Mods revolve around one thing only....money. You change the ECM for intake, exhaust, fuel, etc. Warranty is out the window. Oh, but wait. You don't care about the money. SO then it does not matter. Change away.

Agree....if you have the money to mod, you assume the risk of taking on a lot more, if something where to happen!

For the most part, I agree...except when they are talking about NA parts like intake manifolds (which still need a tune really to maximize anything)...

I would strongly recommend you do not add E fuels without a flex fuel sensor and proper tuning.

It is true O2 sensors will see the lean condition and add it to the LTFT.

The + LTFT will carry in to WOT and make a rich condition, but this is not safe practice as O2 have no control or input during WOT runs.

Also no timing is being added for the E content to properly burn it.

People experiment with this stuff I get it all part of the Hobby but not a good idea in any way shape or form.

We should not be looking for Free mods they typically turn in to very expensive mistakes.

No different than getting caught cheating on a test or in a relationship the end results can be very bad.
Trims should be affected 5% or less from the E20 once settled on LTFT over E10, about 2.5% or so E15, wouldnt think that would hurt much at WOT richer or leaner with the cooling effect. The gas cap ok's E15 as well. I totally agree going above E20 is getting quite risky and on the edge.

Do the ZL1's have factory widebands that can be used for datalogging?

Cheers

No they do not, they are Narrow Band which means no closed loop fuel control.

Most GM run in Open loop which is why tuning is so critical if changing any 1 part.

Here is an aftermarket part that comes already tuned.

It would beat just about anything in the 1/4 mile

yes i am asking about the ZL1

There is so much benefit to tuning this should be your first mod.

These cars respond very well to a good clean tune, I found the calibrations have left a lot on the table which is highly unusual in this day and age.

All the bolt ons that say no tune required are well Let me put it to you like this.

If the factory calibration with factory parts is as far off as I have seen on 30 + ZL-1, how on Gods Green earth can the calibration be good with aftermarket parts???

Feel free to call with any questions or post them here.

Ted.
i am waiting for my factory warranty to expire before i do any major mods. just wanted a few more horses without voiding it.

To summarize:

Without a tune, nothing will improve performance.

With a tune, the sky's the limit!
