Good stuff suggested, on brakes I will add that you should also check the brake pad's thickness when you are changing the brake fluid out. If the brake pads are at least half of new thickness they would typically be considered good to go.

Would you track veterans says most people run with track insurance or without?

With Motul RBF 600 flush once a year and bleed every 1-2 events, did I understand that correctly?
Also a newb and following this thread. First event April 11.

On insurance, it all depends on your risk tolerance. For me, $350 vs. the risk of damage or even total loss of the car plus possible damages to the track? I'll take the insurance. Personally I think it is an easy and obvious decision.

Most of the major points have been hit, but I'll emphasize a couple:

Insist on an instructor in the car with you to start out, if possible. Some organizations will do "lead/follow", but don't settle for that.

Go slow to go fast. A fast lap looks slow on video because it's smooth and boring. Don't be 'speed racer' out of the gate, build up slowly, learning the track and your car. You'll end up faster at the end of the day.

Definitely get track insurance. Big wrecks happen to experienced drivers, but the majority of crashes I've seen in the last couple of years were in the beginner's group, and most of those were just going too fast, too soon.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate...

Track driving is a lot of work mentally... if you start to loose focus, get off the track and take a break. Brain fade is more likely than brake fade to cause an incident.

Finally... HPDE is NOT racing. Wait until it's safe to pass. Watch your mirrors and be courteous to faster drivers.

Oh, and HAVE FUN!!

100% agree on the $350 vs potential total loss. Its just that between the event pass, insurance and consumables you’re creeping up to $1000 a day, which sometimes makes we wish I just joined the local chess club instead

FWIW the insurance covers the entire weekend so it can make sense to do Sat and Sun to take advantage of that.

This is what we try to do with our ZL1... hit a two day event a couple times a year to reduce the cost of insurance.

It's also why our primary track car is a Miata... no need for insurance and significantly less expensive consumables.
