Check out the 4Banger 1LE Camaro`s time then check out the time for the 2007 GT500 Mustang

That Stang loses by 3 tenths the 2015 GT beats the little Camaro by 4 tenths

Numbers 133,139 and 145

Just want to point out that the VIR 3.3 mile course config that the C8/GT500 were tested on is NOT the same course at VIR that the lightning lap is on (that's the 4.1 mile grand course) - not apples to apples.


What IS a good point of reference and the only car I know to have times on both the 3.3mile course AND the 4.1 mile grand course is the C7 ZR1. Which ran a 1:51.x on the 3.3 mile (Randy Pobst IIRC) and the 2:39.5 on the 4.1 (I believe that was a C&D mag journalist). The 1:51.x on the 3.3 mile is the current prod car lap record for that track config.

Based on the difference between the ZR1 time and the ZL1-1LE time on the 4.1 mile course (5.5 seconds), I'd bet on the shorter course the gap narrows and the ZL1-1LE runs in the 1:54-1:56 range - which would be about the same as the GT500 CFTP.

However you can buy a CFTP at MSRP (~$90k) and you can buy a ZL1-1LE for $10k off sticker (~$65k) if you travel. Even if the ZL1 was 1 second slower than the CFTP, I'd say it's better bang for the buck. 15k buys a lot of brakes pads, tires, etc.

However it is also worth pointing out that the GT500 will ride better on the street because magnetic/adjustable dampers vs DSSV shocks with no rubber in them at all.

So if I planned for a lot of street driving, maybe I'd second look at the GT500

Or maybe just wait for the C8 Z06, which will probably be less powerful than the GT500 CFTP but similarly priced and as fast or faster around a road course

If the pricing is similar to the C7, the C8 Z06 will come in under the GT500 CFTP. The Z51 is better compared to the base GT500.

Exactly. In a short period of time, these cars have come a long way. An '07 GT500 loses to a 4 cyl. 1LE by .4 seconds? That speaks volumes of today's tech..

And yet the Hellcat could never even think of coming close to a ZL1, ZL1 1LE, GT500 or GT500 CFTP lap times around a road course. The HC is a one-trick pony, straight line car, whereas GM and Ford's cars are Swiss Army knives.

I thnk that is something people are forgetting that Ford was able to make a 4200 pound mustang handle. Yes it has a huge power advantage over the C8, but also weighs 600 pounds more lol
