nice.
although it looks like you chose to stay with unported heads? any reason?you are leaving a good 20-30 rwhp on the table without them. |

And 550whp is enough for now. I might do a hi ram/hood and a 150 plate shot over the winter, if budget allows I'll port the heads.

Id do the heads before the hi ram.... will give about the same power and dont have to cut your hood or modify the cowl.

Can you do this cam with stock exhaust manifolds? I really don't want headers on my car, too noisy/hot etc.....

Sure, it just won't make as much power.

I can't see doing a cam without already having headers. When you say noisy, what do you mean? A cam is going to make some noise.

He means that he doesn't want the increased sound level from the exhaust that headers produce.

the factory headers are really nice, like the Z/28 headers. I would look for a cam similar to the Z/28 cam. Such a cam will be a little bit more radical on the smaller 6.2 but the overall curve should be similar just offset a few hundred rpm up due to the smaller 6.2.
Texas Speed has a AFM cam, so does comp. IMO TxSpeed does more RD and you really run into a potential lifter collapse with too much spring. I would go for a full cam and kit from a vendor that HAS AFM cars running for the last few years. I don't think there is that much sans headers to be gained by going to a full AFM delete setup. But deleting the AFM does give you more choices, also lets you port the heads. So ported heads, decent Z/28 type cam, phaser limited to 20 degrees, factory headers, front cat deletes (move sensors behind secondary cats).. Pray ported intake, 95mm TB, green filter in cut housing.... would yield a very nice performance boost on a "stock car" End of thread jack.. back to this REALLY nice NA setup!

I really wasn't concerned on NOISE per se. Headers do give off more heat under hood, melted plug wires a concern. I like the lope and sound of a cam. The OEM headers are actually pretty good: 4-2-1 and sound good. The factory NPP sounds OK, may switch at some point. Will get the heads ported. I don't care about 1/4 mile times.....

the 1 and 3/4 headers do offer more room for the wires. I am on the stock wires for years now, they do need routing and a few zip ties and one custom bracket ( 5 minutes and a strip of aluminum). That said Speed engineering has $60 bent sparkplug boot wires. Or you can put your own bent boot on a stock wire. Making your own wires was the norm for many decades. There is more heat and guys are cutting open the heat extractors on the hood, you will need to wrap the starter and the header in that location. If you do a search on my post and "header". I've done many write-ups / responses.
Even stock the 2" header has shown a HP increase and debatable mid range torque increases too. Yes I know, that ain't possible.

I have OBX 2in headers and the car is loud at idle (as you heard in the video), but since that kit keeps NPP, the car closes the valves are low throttle/cruising so the car is really quiet in city driving besides taking off from lights and when you hit the throttle very aggressively. Definitely livable. If you force the car into stealth mode, you hear the cam still in the idle but it's really pretty mild.
