Speedway is running 6 quarts for $54.99 and they have a $10 sign-up discount for your e-mail address (phone number not required). With free shipping for orders over $99 the final cost for 12 quarts shipped was $99.98 ($8.33/quart).

Hopefully the price will come down when and if Mobil starts offering the 5 quart jugs.

I wish they would hurry. I went with 5/30 for now, until the price of the "new" stuff comes down.

Change to Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP Dexos2 OR NOT?
I've read everything that I can find on the forums regarding the debate between Mobil 1 5W-30 Dexos and the new 0W-40 ESP Dexos2 oil. It is still a little confusing. What is clear is that the 2019 model year now comes with, and recommends, the new 0W-40 Dexos2 oil, but the recommendation for the 2016-2018 ZL1 model years is still the previous 5W-30 (except for track use then 0W-40 is recommended).
Unless they changed some internals in the LT4 that I am unaware of, this really doesn't makes sense. I purchased the Mobil 1 0W/40 ESP Dexos2 to put in my 2018 ZL1 based on the forum reviews but haven't actually changed yet. Just pausing before I do... Question: Is there any reason that we should not be running the new 0W-40 Dexos 2 oil in the 2016-2018 ZL1? Am I helping or hurting the motor at all by running the new 0W-40 Dexos2, or does it not make any difference? (note: I don't track or race my car). Is it okay to proceed, or not? Any warranty issues if I do? Would appreciate any help from those who are in the know. Thank you!

https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us...ne%20pager.pdf From the Performance Supplement: LS/LT 1LE, SS 1LE, and ZL1 Change the engine oil to 0W-40 or 5W-40 that meets the dexos2 specification. If this oil is not available, the following oils can be used as an alternative: Valvoline SYNPOWER MST 5W-40 or Mobil 1 15W-50. If 15W-50 is used, the engine oil must be changed after the track event. For LS/LT 1LE, add 0.9 L (1.0 qt) of oil over the nominal fill level for a track event. After the competitive driving, remove the excess oil so that the level on the dipstick is not above the upper mark that shows the proper operating range. During track usage, do not follow the Engine Oil Life System status. Change the engine oil after four hours of accumulative track usage. If 15W-50 oil is used, it must be changed back to the engine oil listed in the “Engine Oil” section of the owner’s manual. ZL1 1LE Only Change the engine oil to Mobil 1 15W-50. Change the engine oil after four hours of accumulative track usage. After track usage, the oil must be changed back to the engine oil listed in the “Engine Oil” section of the owner’s manual Last edited by breakskeet; 04-02-2019 at 12:26 PM. |
