I hear you about the carbon dash piece. I didn't order my ZL1, I bought it off a lot because it didn't have the sunroof and had pdr

The REALLY stupid thing about my car is that the dealer ordered it with the painted hood insert, but the carbon dash pad.

I mean, if you ordered the carbon for the dash, why not leave the natural carbon look on the hood insert instead of getting the painted carbon insert?

Whoever placed this order was clueless...

You can option these with non-sued but most of the exotics I've driven or sat in have lots of suede, especially on the dash and wheel.

I'm surprised by all the suede-hate here.

Love my ZL1 1LE interior, the only thing I didn't like about the interior was the optional carbon dash insert so I didn't buy one with that option. It thought it looked very out of place as the only carbon piece inside.
Besides the nasty feel of suede on the steering wheel, I like the classic look and wear properties of leather. IMHO, suede or alcantara will look dated and worn on cars even a few years old, and it's hard to keep clean.

It seems most supercars come with alcantara and more and more outrageous interior colors that will, once again, look very worn and dated in the future. And no one ever calls out these people. Have you ever seen a supercar Youtube video where the Youtuber says, "yikes, that's a garish and ugly interior. I don't like that?" Never. The more hideous the interior, the more it's praised.

I guess I have the opposite opinion of leather vs. suede :-) The leather seat/vinyl dash interior cars I've owned have all started looking old to me after 5 years because everything starts looking shiny and the seat leather gets wrinkles or cracks in the surface.

I agree it's harder to keep the suede clean, but I'm careful to wash my hands before diving the car. It causes me to be more careful.

When I look a well maintained suede interior Aston Martin or Lambo from 5 years ago it still looks new to me because it's not shiny or wrinkled, but a 5 year old leather Ferrari 458 interior looks dated--not the exterior which is my favorite. I do prefer like a combo of suede (alcantara) and leather, and good accent stitching really helps.

Absolutely, the bonded leather in a GM car isn't of the highest quality and won't hold up as well as the synthetic suede in the ZL1. It will wrinkle and crack.

I like suede, like the one Audi,MB, and similar use. The "suede" in the ZL1 looks terrible. It looks fake (and probably is). I changed the shifter and steering wheels to leather/carbon fiber. Will hopefully do the door panels and what not later.

Audi/Porsche/MB all use Alcantera, artificial suede (polyurethane fabric) I believe the Zl’s use the same material, if not it’s darn close, the fake sued used in my Raptors upgraded interior is the real crappy stuff.

Yes, this is correct of course. Audi, MB, Porsche, Ferrari all use "fake" suede called alcantara because it makes a much better material for use in cars--lighter, softer and easier to care for in terms of washing with water. Real suede is a nightmare to care for and once it gets dirty, like with a nice pair of tan Clarks desert boots, you have to use a special abrasive cleaning stone to scrape dirt off.

Chevy uses the same stuff the others do, it may be slightly less premium, but it's no more fake than the stuff on a GT3RS steering wheel.
