So any advice on driving it home, like protecting the paint , car driving techniques, etc
I’m super excited as I’ve been looking for a car for a while and I found this 1le now that gm is doing 0% apr!
Thank you
Use Rev Match , it will help out till you get the feel back again . Good luck with the car you will love it .

I had this exact situation. I drove to pick up my car 9 hours away from home, Was just getting back into a manual car after 3 years and wanted to try not burning my clutch and preserve the paint...

What I did was because it was a new car
1. Drove late at night (Avoid traffic kicking rocks / vary speed to avoid the whole break in being stuck at 1700 rpm and 100kmh)
2. Practiced alot in the parking lot before leaving, Luckily they had a used lot that they allowed me to use as long as I wished
3. Turn on active rev match. This will save you a frick ton especially getting back into a manaual.
4. If possible drive on a colder / sort of windy day, Helps keep the bugs, dust ect down.
5. Get comfy and just smile the whole ride home. The Recaro seats were not nearly as forgiving as my Audi S4 seats but I got used to it and I love the car to this day, Only has 1600 Km on it. (1200 are from the drive back home)
6. These clutches grab really high in the 1LE, For the first day I used the clutch to get the car going to avoid revving it up and accidentally dropping the clutch.

FWIW - I used the break-in procedures for a crate LT4 vs. the owner's manual. Was more aggressive and believe the owner's manual is more about reducing liability for GM. Might be the same for the LT1.No issues with my motor and oil usage is not measurable.

The long break in period is mostly for the benefit of E-lsd vs the motor. Fyi.

Good to know! I just did the recommended medium and hard throttle pulls up to 4K and back to idle. Was in a straight line so I think the diff will be fine.

to protect paint, maintain a lot of distance between you and the next car. Drive in off hours.

Don't worry about the break in. There is nothing you can do to alter the ring seal AT ALL on a factory new vehicle. They've already set the piston rings. Just drive it normally and don't do anything crazy.

You don't want to cruise at a steady speed for an extended period of time. Vary your vehicle speed and engine rpm. Don't rev it out, don't do jack rabbit starts, or heavy braking for the first 1500 miles or so.

I forget exactly what they state is the exact break in procedure, but your first road trip home could be an important one.

Hope for good weather, and pray for no snow and salt.

Congrats, and have a safe trip.
Exactly what you said. I had a 1075 mile drive home from the dealer in Md. to SW Florida and I'm still under 1500 miles 10 weeks later. I took the interstate but varied the speed the entire way. If you can't avoid using cruise, don't go over 10-15 minutes at the same speed. I passed cars, they passed me, passed them again...…….vary your speed and stay under either 3500 or 4k rpm,I can't remember which. The break-in procedure should be somewhere online.
Caveat: Mine is a V-6.

I drove back from NC to Central Florida. I mostly changed my speeds (as directed by the manual) to quickly get past trucks to avoid rocks. So pretty much the entire way I was playing my own version of frogger.
