I believe Hennessy was briefly on this forum. If you’re a member of the corvette forum, you might want to do some research on that site. If I was interested in a Z06, the C8 will be revealed soon and will be a game changer in the sports car world.

Go with the Callaway 750 ZL1 1LE A10 or M6. Warranty equal to Chevy factory serviced at dealer, quality and reliability that no other can match--they support Corvette pro racing teams

750 HP might not seem as outrageous as packages from others, but 650 is already beast-mode and 750 is more than a GT2RS or Mclaren 720, and many other 2019 super cars. And it's "only" $20k installed :-) You can buy it pre-installed through a Chevy dealer

And yes, stay far away from Hennessy. Can't believe Top Gear plugged them with a piece that included the Exorcist--but even with 1000HP it lost to the Demon

After reading your post thoroughly and I think I understand your interests/concerns...

Short answer: Get the Z06. If you must have 4 seats and don't mind some bumps, get the ZL1 1LE.

Don't get me wrong, I love my ZL1 1LE, but if you have an opportunity to own a Corvette you should take it because you may never get that opportunity again. I loved mine and I sold it because I wanted my 3 year old daughter to have a place to sit (I wouldn't trade that for anything).

As for a slightly less subjective comparison between them.

In terms of handling:
ZL1 < Z06 < ZL1 1LE
Z06 has the weight advantage which helps
ZL1 1LE suspension is so well tuned that you don't feel the extra 250lbs, the ZL1 1LE feels more nimble, but you pay the price in comfort.
I'd BS-guess that:
ZL1 feels about 90% of the handling performance of the Z06
Z06 (esp with Z07 package) is 90% of the handling performance ZL1 1LE.

And comfort is the inverse:
ZL1 1LE < Z06 < ZL1
The interior quality and comfort of the ZL1 (and ZL1 1LE) is way better than the Z06, even with 3LZ.
ZL1 1LE is a fun but can be a bit of a rough ride depending on the quality of your roads.
Z06 is my favorite here because it's still incredibly comfortable but so much more fun than the regular ZL1. Note that I do not own a regular ZL1 but I have a co-worker friend that does and we've done some comparisons.

Styling: This is purely subjective...
Z06 is just in a league of its own IMO.
ZL1 looks great. ZL1 1LE looks even better (my opinion), but the Z06 looks like a proper sports car. It's low, its wide, its got scoops and 335 tires in the rear. It looks great from EVERY angle and its rare to find a car that looks great from every angle. IMO not even the ZL1 1LE looks great from every angle. ZL1 has a fairly aggressive front end but the rest of the car is kind of plain. ZL1 1LE is very sporty with its aero and makes the rear look more interesting with the spoiler and tires sticking out, but still plain around the front and rear fenders. I love the Z06 vents/scoops.

Visibility:
I'm sure you've heard about this. Camaro often loses some points for visibility. It's true but you get used to it and it's not a big deal but theres always some moments when you're like, "Hey I dont know if I'm going to clip that curb" etc. Visibility in the Z06 is excellent. You see everything which is really great if you like driving fast

Anyway I clearly miss my Z06.

I've actually convinced my wife to let me get my Z06 back so I may do that in a year. Then buy a second sporty 4dr car like an M3 to drive when my daughter wants to come along.

Get the Z06.
I appreciate this comparison as I'm wrestling with the same decision. I currently have an A10 ZL1, but have been toying around with the idea of either a 1LE or a Z06 (I would get a manual in either), but just not really sure what I want to do. I do take one of my boys with me from time to time, but I think a Vette would still be OK. The other idea is just wait to see what they really do with the C8 and just wait for that...in the end I really just need a bigger garage.

I have both. AMA.

My opinion is that if you can spend the extra dough, get a 2017+ Z06. It does pretty much everything better in my usage and I don't see a need to have 2 semi-useless rear seats at the cost of another 500 pounds. If you want an automatic car, get an A10 ZL1. If you want a stick car, M7 Z06 is the way to go.

Doc,

First congratulations on your accomplishments. That's a tough choice. Are you sure you want to daily that much HP. Here is my input. We have had zero issues and put over 14,000 miles on a C6 Hennessey 800. My concern for you would be what tire selection you would go with to hold that much HP? If you go supper soft compound with a 80 tread wear you wouldn't get many miles on them. maybe 7K if your lucky. Secondly if you go to a street tire you could easily loose traction on even the best roads. I would say go for a ZL1 exorcists edition . All in all I would recommend a ZL1 Camaro. Just my .02 though

I had a 2016 ZO6 and I traded it for a 2018 ZL1. If travel comfort is a big factor, ZL1 for the win. It does everything more comfortably than the ZO6 but you do give up a little bit of handling, for me it was worth it. The ZO6 was my 4th Corvette, the ZL1 is my first Camaro and I would pick it over the ZO6 every time.

Lol you really going to say 750hp is more than a 720s and a gt2 rs. Those cars would shit on a ZL1. And Callaway is a joke. Overpriced.

A 720s would destroy most exotics and modded cars too

Drive both of them and see which one you gotta have. You definitely don’t want an auto Z06 though.

A Callaway ZL1 won't touch a 720S or GT2RS. Callaway is also very overpriced but you do get a warranty which may be worth it to some. McLaren 720's have put down 680-710 RWHP, putting them well over 775-800+ HP at the crank, very underrated. Plus, they have boost by gear. In each consecutive gear the power goes up and up (Which is normal, but point is we have no idea how much the engine actually makes even stock). Showroom stock, 720's have been 9.7-10.0 regularly with even mediocre drivers/poor conditions clicking off 10.3 or less. Blazingly fast. You'd need 1000 HP and TRACTION to beat a 720S with a ZL1. No matter how "fast" of a car I've seen go up against a 720, the only car I've seen that truly smoked it and pulled on it hard up top was a 1200+ HP GTR.

The hate for the Z08 A8 is overblown. It's great for most purposes and it is the GM 60ft king. I've never gotten the car to overheat and I've had it on a track and in 100 degree bumper to bumper cruises. No issues whatsoever.

I don't think the ZL1 is any more or less comfortable than the Z06. Both get very plush for what they are in tour mode and I don't feel claustrophobic in the Z06 like some complain about. If you drive both back to back, the visibility difference is insane. The Z06 feels like you can see 99% of the road in all directions. The ZL1 feels like you're looking down a tunnel. The Z06 feels like it's wrapped around you like a glove and you're "part" of it. Also, I've noticed that neither car is any more or less "twitchy" in the corners like some magazines have claimed - again overblown. Somebody on here posted: The Z06 feels like a fighter jet. The ZL1 feels like a really fast tank. Which I agree with.

I truly think the best way to break it down is by transmission. Automatic = ZL1. Manual = Z06. The A10 is superior to the A8 (though the A8 Z06 digs WAY harder). And the Manual Z06 with no bog or super intrusive torque management is a dream.

Get neither. Get a ZR1 instead. If you want this 750 package, then you will basically be buying a Z06 and adding about $10K minimum to the car. At that price you'll be at the doorsteps of a ZR1 which has the HP you desire and will come with a full warranty. I say get a ZR1.

Agreed. I was just at a dealer tonight that happens to have one on the showroom floor...
