I have a 5th gen ZL1, but have Alki 5 Gallon Meth kit. I usually get about 3-6 months on a tank with normal driving around town and getting on it somewhat frequently on on-ramps and the dumbass Subarus around Portland trying to race me.

Honestly, one thing to think about that I didn't consider is that the internal gaskets in the pump motor on it will start to leak after 1-3 years, maybe longer, from the corrosive nature of the Methanol. Not sure on other kits but mine started leaking and I had to unbolt it and send to Alki to refurb. Guess its a common thing for it to not last long. He did it for free, but not happy that I'm going to have to deal with that pretty frequently. I made a custom tray so when it happens again it won't soak the carpet in the trunk.

It is a trade off though as IAT2 temps are low even after several pulls. However, I question how much of that is from Meth vs the heat exchanger + rotofab extra coolant tank.

You don't need to remove it unless your going to use the Washer Tank. If your going to mount the tank in the trunk you can mount it in the engine bay, trunk or where ever you want. I just like it because it only has to travel a few feet to the elbow where the nozzle is plumbed. If the tank is in the rear it is 15 feet and remember you just have a very small line that has to be run from the trunk to the front. Also if your running Meth in the trunk it has to have a firewall separating the tank from the interior since it is flammable.

Meth does have some cooling effect but water mixed with the Meth is a much better cooling agent then straight Meth. Meth works as fueling more then cooling since it evaporates rapidly and that's why I run both.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. I also like using the washer tank for the same reasons. I’m not sure I want to remove the wheel liner to do it on this car, but it’s still a better option than a trunk mounted tank.

Water has a lot higher latent heat capability than methanol for sure. I’d recommend 50/50 water to meth mix. That eliminates the fire hazard too...

I am fascinated with the idea of running Meth but know little to nothing about it and afraid my limited knowledge and assumptions probably have kept me from ever using it.

For example. How can Meth be used as a non-fuel? only for cooling? I thought meth even mixed with water still had some fuel like benefits and ultimately is there ever a way to tune a car with meth that doesn't result in that Single point of failure that could cause engine damage?

The line is pretty easy to drop down. Might take 15 minutes. Then you have to tap into the washer tank which set down low at the back of the fender well.

Meth is the fueling, water is the cooling, together they work the best. Meth will have some cooling effect plus adds fueling.

I have it on my ZL1. It’s the first vehicle I’ve owned that used methanol. I will say this, it’s strange but I like it. I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect but when you REALLY lay into the loud pedal it makes a world of difference. It almost feels like the top end just gets way more oooomph. It’s not bad on price either, but I guess that’s all relative. I just went to the local performance store and paid $55 for a 5 gallon drum of VP pure grade A M1 Methanol snake oil. 😂

If I had a gun to my head - I’d say do it. It feels like my old car and the difference between pump gas and E85. That’s a good analogy. PFA
