Because it's best to reseat the rings and reorient the bearings. It's highly unlikely that the damage was completely isolated to a single cylinder, and skipping the simple step of inspection is just doing things the ghetto way.

Different strokes, but I'd reseat it all and check all tolerances to avoid future complications. You can't do that properly without disassembly.

I was turned to the light a few posts ago.

Does anyone know how much approximately a shop would charge for all of this? $1,000? $2,000? $5,000?

For drop in pistons and rods, i would say 4-5k. Best way to find out would be to get a quote form the shop you would like to do the work.

To do it right you will want to find a high end shop that will do the needed bore and or hone with the specific finish required for your ring selection. They also need to do the math and get the piston to wall clearance set up to deal with your temperatures as well for everything to come out right. You'll want to provide them with the cylinder head mounting hardware prior so they can torque a deck plate on it while doing the machine work. Also, talk with them honestly about your usage so they can set your ring end gap properly. If that all happens the rest should be fairly straight forward.

Thank you! Is that just labor or parts too? I mean I know the going rates for Drop-in Piston/Rods is around $1,600 or so.

Parts and labor, just a rough guess from what I have seen.

I'm finding myself in a similar situation.
How did it all end up going for you?
