When you say the accident is fixed "right", is that according to the current owner.. the future owner (who is asking now) the body shop or the insurance company? Financially, it's the latter.. .which may not align with what the first two want or need. This also likely explains why this vehicle is for sale, as the original owner no longer wanted it after the accident repairs. In addition to this, there are certain points of the vehicle that may not be replaced and instead repaired. When we are talking about structural components such as the strut tower mounts (which very likely can be impacted in an accident as described) you can have permanent changes to the metallurgy of the shock towers themselves which weaken the metal permanently as well as alignment issues from simply not being able to put it back the way the original hot stamping was due simply to the science of it all. So it's not possible to put a blanket statement such as yours over this type of situation. |

A side impact does not effect the metallurgy of steel. Only temperature and The influence of another metal or chemical does that. Structural integrity can be effected, if the part is damaged, but at that point it has to be replaced. The side impact could have been a sideswipe and simply creased the door. The fact the airbags did not deploy indicate that the impact was extremely minor or the car was not running.

I bought it. This is my long term car at this point. Only upgrade now is a corvette in the future, and with my wife forcing a backseat on me because of children and my child only being 1, i have a long way to go before i get a corvette.

“Right” was in quotes as it was your word, which I agree was incorrect. Actually the impact and resulting bend will create a difference in the metallurgy, there is in fact heat energy involved in the kinetic transfer. Once a metal is bent or formed the molecules will never line up identically again. Which, again, is reason to avoid the purchase particularly if you don’t know the extent of the damage. Sure could have been lesser, but you don’t know any more than I do about that. Now if anyone would like to give me a VIN I’m pretty sure I can show you what it looked like when it was hit.... |

Would it be too inappropriate to share those pics? I sincerely hope he got a good camaro, but would love to see what was insignificant enough to overlook in the end. Just sayin...
