Good track cars aren't necessarily good street cars. By modifying an SS 1LE, you are going to shift the balance that GM has established. If you make it better for the street, it'll probably be worse on the track. If you optimize for track, it's going to be worse on the street. If you find a way to make it better all around, the folks at GM will want hear your ideas.

The SS 1LE is perhaps a better track car than the ZL1. If you look at track fast lists it's not uncommon to see SS 1LEs running faster than the ZL1s. For many tracks, it really takes a great/pro driver to manage the power of the ZL1 properly.

Heat will probably be the least of your track worries. When you add significant horsepower, you need all of the suspension, aero, tires, etc. to bring the car back to a balanced track car. (Otherwise, the car will be a handful.)

In other words, adding a supercharger will almost certainly require some compromise in track capability. You'll just have to decide if that's what you want.

Good luck.

I will say this, the centri units will do a lot better on the track than the PD style ones in regards to heat, a lot better.

Care to elaborate? Do you have the LT4 blower? Do you have any over heating issues?

Honestly.. the ZL1 costs that much more than an SS 1LE because that's how much it costs to create a balanced track car with the additional 200 HP and to keep it cool. Supercharge your 1LE, and you'll probably need to upgrade the axles, cooling, add an intercooler, change spring rates, get custom damping and eLSD settings, etc..

The zo6 has a blower and had to add additional coolers over stock to keep from pulling timing from heat. I think the 1le is better in the turns with novice to intermediate driver's.

What he said... i spoke to a pretty good driver whose owned both a zl1 and a 1le.. he swears the 1le is better on a track.. save your $$ or I'd add hp na...keep in mind mod money is typically lost money..

Ran my Whipple charged 17 1LE yesterday. Slightly damp and my first time at the track, so no new fast lap times, but the takeaway was that I need an additional oil cooler.

IAT2 - 87 degrees
Coolant - 230
Oil - 290 after 10 minutes
Brakes - DS2500 and SRF - no issues

Once the oil got hot it pulled a lot of power, like 10-15 mph down the straight. I think with an additional oil cooler it’ll be fine. It’s ridiculously powerful, and I’m on the canned Whipple tune.

If you're gonna do it why don't you use a procharger? Less heat to deal with..

I have the mishimoto oil cooler, I ran a track day at camaro fest last year 95 degrees and 90% humidity and my max oil temp for the day was 239. If you do decide to put it on while the front clip is off there is a cover that blocks air flow into the air box, I removed mine, pic below with cover location.

Chris, Mike with the other white 1LE from monday. Good to meet you and glad the rest of the day went well after the carnage of the early sessions.

Hopefully see you out there again once you get that thing dialed in.

I'm looking at the Mishimoto, but looking to see if I can do the same for less than $600. I did yank that same piece when I did the blower install

Great to meet you - and I'll be back. Did you see the drama on FB about the GT3 that wrecked going into 1?
