What does the CAI do for the SS? Does it improve throttle response?

Just had GM put one on last week. Typically that would be an install I'd do myself but the GM CAI requires a slight tune due to the MAF so I just had them install it. $446.00 with the Costco parts discount - Nashua NH Chevy dealer. I noticed a hair more oomph but nothing significant. Just a hair louder in the engine compartment too.

The GMPP intake uses paper filters. Not likely to be able to pick one up at the local parts store so I ordered a replacement filter to have on hand when the current filter gets dirty. It shipped out today.

There is no way you are getting 40mpg in a Camaro SS with any type of cold air system. If you want to know what the car is "actually" getting then fill up and figure out how many gallons it took to get to full, then divide the miles traveled on that tank by the gallons and it will tell you the real MPG.

If you think that was an insult...the internet is not for you. He's saying that's bullshit...which it is. There's no way you're AVERAGING 40mpg. Like someone else said, to get your true MPG you'll have to do some math and it won't be 40MPG.

I found it several places under part number 84329125. Before purchasing I figured I would contact the dealer I purchased my car from and one closer to my work. Both tell me the code to get the reflash is part of the cost of the CAI kit but the flash itself is not free. I was quoted $122 from the dealer where I purchased my car and $75 from another dealer just for the flash.

I hear most dealers are honoring the tune at no charge to the customer. No such luck here.

Stock airbox it is!

The GMPP CAI comes with a GM certificate with a charge code for flashing the ECU. The dealer shouldn't be charging for that service!

That's my understanding. The directions that come in the kit specifically read:

NOTE: The cost of re-programing is included in the cost of this kit. The dealer is instructed to charge the reflash to Labor Code 0601558.

I read this to both dealers and they stuck with the cost of the authorization code is included, not the flash itself.

I don't have time to argue with these dealerships. I may contact a few more in my area in hopes one of them will honor what GM is stating in the instructions.

I would tell both of those dealers that you would be more than happy to call GM and open a case while there in front of them so the GM TAC line can correct them.

The purchase of the GMPP CAI kit and it being installed by the dealer covers the flash as well.

Yea my wife’s 2.0l VW GTI doesn’t touch 40 mpg, a camaro SS sure as hell isnt. I could see low 30’s on a real long highway slog max

This is true. When I showed my service manager the paper work it was no charge.

Update: Matt at Wildhammer contacted the dealer where I purchased my car and set them straight. I confirmed the dealer is now clear on the reflash being no charge regardless of where I purchase and who installs it.

Needless to say I just placed the order with Matt. Fantastic customer service!
