Ouch. That is an expensive lesson to learn.

You should know your friend quite well before even thinking about it. I have several that I've never had an issue with driving my cars for over 25 years. If you haven't ridden with them enough to know their abilities, that's kind of on you. Things can still happen though, you know know the road conditions or what really happened.

I've always had a saying regarding just this, "never lend out your car or your woman."

It's a pull off. ZL1 1LE had to start in the water to make it fair. Car is still running in this photo. The wave lines clearly show the 1LE is moving forward. Winning!

It would be akin to your friend burning your house down. You gonna be having beers and joking about it that evening?

To you your Camaro is obviously just a car. To a lot of us, it's much, much more than that.

People who want "just a car" drive Kias and Toyotas.
Agree to disagree. A car IS just a car, especially a Camaro that can easily be replace like for like. Insurance gets you a new car, everything is back to normal.

Burning down a house is completely different... all of your memories, photos, etc would be impossible to replace, It would be hard, but again, just stuff. (and tbh the state of my home remodel... I may buy that friend a beer if they burnt my place down). That said if I handed my friend a lighter and lighter fluid and asked him to breathe fire in my living room... and he burnt my house down, I share some of that responsibility.

I would love to hear what the Camaro is to you... My Camaro makes me smile, it is growing a bond with my son, gives me fun on the road, cruise ins etc. AS A CAR. Would you trade you car for your health? Your spouses health? Your kids? What about your best friends? Would you give up your car to cure a friend of cancer? IT IS JUST A CAR. It is a special car, it means something to you, but if it means more to you than your friends, I just don't get it.

Again - just my point of view. I respect your opinion though.

EDIT: If the friend doesn't make it right financially, then I agree, friendship over. But if it was an accident and things get made right... I would get over it.

You're a much more forgiving person than I think a lot of Camaro owners, myself included.

Yes, my Camaro is a part of my family. You don't buy cars like Camaros and Corvettes for just transportation or just a hunk of metal, plastic, and glass. They're part of your DNA as a person. That's what I believe. It's fine if you don't. My friends know what my Camaro means to me, and most of my friends have cars that are just as important to them. Again, these aren't Honda Accords.

Besides, when a car is totaled you will NEVER get from the insurance company what the car is worth on the market. They look to give you the absolute lowest value based on their numbers and depreciation, which could be $10k lower than the market value, especially on a 1LE ZL1. They do not consider the kind of value a car has to enthusiasts. So this whole "the insurance company will just get you a new one" is a complete line of BS. You will never get what the car is worth once it's totaled, unless you fight the insurance company. Good luck with that.

My car is irreplaceable to me. Especially since the total number of Ice Blue Metallic 2SS 6 speeds produced in 2017 is less than a thousand and they discontinued the color for 2019.

Those are other things you need to consider..... if someone totals out 1LE ZL1 lets say a couple years down the line when they discontinue the trim, you're F**KED!!!!

The fact the lights are still on under water shows how well our cars are built. Water tight electrical/computer system no doubt.

Fair points - and I completely understand, especially if not made financially whole. I am a total car nut, love my 1LE!!! It is my toy car, it for fun sunshine. I have had 15+ new cars... I have a problem. I guess because I LOVE them then leave them (cars)... I am used to parting ways.

I also only a have a few true friends and they are like family and mean the world to me. So they are way more rare and irreplaceable than most vehicles.
