One option, which i've heard in person from a friend, is getting a muffler delete with CA Performance test pipes. Being that the test pipes are bolt on, you can just swap them with the cats come smog time, but you got a few years before you even have to worry about that. You can do a seconday cat delete, but that will require cutting and welding, its up to you if you want to do that.

IMO, the muffler delete with CA Performance test pipes sound pretty good, and loud AF.

Keep this in mind tho: your neighbors could call the cops on you if your cold starts are that annoying and if they are willing to go down that route... the cops can come and see that your car is modified and ticket you for modified exhaust, or worse, if they see your cats have been tampered with, you can get state ref'd. Keep all that in mind. I've seen it happen.

Glasspacks are cool but like you said, they don't last.

And cutouts always sound like you have an exhaust leak when they are closed, which would bug the **** out of me, idk about you, but otherwise they are the best choice to go from quiet to loud.

You actually can afford Borla....just go to like RPD and use their 10% off code and you can get the S-Type or Atak axelback. This gives you a solid drone free exhaust to build off of over time. You can eventually do the Borla Mid pipes and then a little further down the road longtubes and a tune. Just don't rush it. Get exactly what you want the first time. Money wasted is rushing into it and changing it again later because you couldn't afford it the first time. Just my .02 cents. Best of luck modding.

Next I’ll tell you what I did; I bought a car that didn’t have NPP because I wasn’t willing to spend $900 for an optional GM exhaust, just to take it right back off and pay another $1500 for a NPP compatible exhaust system. I bought a 3” X-pipe, Flowmaster super 10 mufflers, Flowmaster 4.5” tips, all stainless steel. Took it to my local, reputable exhaust shop and had them install it all with 3” stainless pipe. My total cost for everything including install was around $700-750.

The Flowmaster 10’s give it a nice deep tone, I don’t like the “tinnyness” of the stock exhaust. With the secondary cat delete it would get a bit raspier and it would certainly be a good loud.
