So sad, hope everyone is ok. I had a 94 blazer with both my kids in the back when a car full of kids decided to do a U-turn on a major interstate during rush hour right in front of me. Of course I never thought they were going to stop, short story, I missed them the car behind me hit me and rolled me when the front tire dug into the pavement. All Ok, shaken up but thank goodness for people who stopped to provide witness statements. You can replace the car, not family.

Sorry to hear- first as long as everyone is OK. Your car is a mess- better hope it's totaled so you can get a new one. Even if it is fixed the value of the car will be substantially lower when you sell or trade it in. My son had an accident with my 2011 MS3. I thought for sure it was totaled but they fixed it. I didn't want it afterwards as the value after a crash would be so much less. I never saw it again and traded it in at a Mazda dealer, took the big hit and forget about it.

Yes, never ever take your eyes off the road- I learned my lesson over 40 years ago when I was just a young kid- I was driving a 1971 Ford Bronco in a driving rain and fog- it was leaking in the back- I turned around to see where the water was coming from- went through a stop sign and broad sided a car. Way back then accidents were not such a big deal- no one was hurt and I drove away. End up fixing the Bronco myself with junk yard parts. The lesson learned from that accident is with me today and whenever I attempt to take my eyes off the road even for a split second I remember the accident and do not take my eyes off the road. And in a few situations where people do stupid things like lane changes, illegal U turns, etc. I avoided getting in an accident. Always keep your eyes on the road no matter what- many, many bad drivers out there that have no clue how to drive and do not know to look for other cars around them before they do stupid things.

So the Navigator driver claimed they were making a legal turn & it was you who were in the wrong?

That old boy looks repairable. Depends how deep the trouble goes for the worth of the car. Only thing going for you is that the value is dropping on these things rapidly. Repair may be pushing that cost to value ratio.

Sometimes you just wish you had those automatic braking/warning systems to avoid such damage.

Glad you are ok.

Your Camaro will probably be repaired because of it being a 2017. You won't know until the adjustor looks at it though. Yeah people drive like idiots on the roads now. Some IMO shouldn't be driving but they are. Glad you didn't get charged with the accident and no injuries occurred. Good luck!

Thanks again ALL for the words of wisdom and hopes for the future.

Yes, the Navi driver told the police they were in the left turn lane traveling straight ahead when I hit them even though I nailed her left rear bumper with my left front bumper. AND two witnesses at the scene corroborated her story with the police. Thus my summons. Then another witness with video called the police station afterwards, and the cop called me to apologize. Told me to shred the summons. Said he was going to give her another opportunity to tell the truth.

Yes, I owe the dash cam witness some heartfelt thanks!

I too hope the vehicle is totaled. I know the value of the car has sunken with the accident making resale a problem if it is repaired. And realistically, I don't see it ever driving the same if they do "fix" it. The tow truck driver said the strut was broken. Fluids leaking everywhere; could have just been coolant. Don't know. The appraiser will make a determination over the next few days. I have my fingers crossed.

Yes, I learned a tough lesson yesterday. We all believe we're good multitaskers, but we can't account for others' actions. And it only takes a split second of not paying attention to result in an accident. Luckily nobody was hurt. Lesson learned! If all works out, a new Camaro will be in my near future...

"AND two witnesses at the scene corroborated her story with the police."

Unbelievable!

Glad you're ok and there was video evidence supporting your side.

just goes to show how unreliable eye witnesses are.

Even though it's been repeated over and over, we still base most of our legal system on testimony from witnesses.
