Black is the only color I'll buy a car in. I don't care if it gets swirled a little or shows dirt and I've never grown tired of it. If it's not a daily driver then it will be much easier to maintain, but at a minimum, I'd have the contact areas protected with a PPF like Expel and ceramic coat the rest of the car as soon as possible after delivery. A ceramic coat will minimize the swirling of the paint, offer more protection against bird and insect droppings, and make it much easier to clean. It isn't going to prevent debris from chipping your paint.

No regrets going with black here. I DD mine, yes it's very hard to keep clean and so far this winter I only wash it once a month. It also looks more grey once it gets dirty. It's awesome though after you clean it though, I can't stop drooling and kind of like unwrapping an awesome present! The other thing nice about black, is that it hides really good in traffic...doesn't say here I am, more like you can't see me...lol. Now I am debating on tinting the windows, but with daylight saving going it's always dark and even harder to see out...so I don't know.

Black color is king but swirl marks are not. That's the challenge.

Swirl marks won't be as noticeable with mosaic black metallic as they will be on straight black.
My '17 ZL1 is the first predominately black car I've owned. This year I took it to 80 car shows and cruise-ins so I learned a thing or two about keeping it clean. As others have mentioned, get paint protection film on it as soon as you can. I had the entire front end (including hood, CF insert and fenders), rockers and impact areas in front and behind the rear wheels protected with film back in January. I currently have my car back at the detailer for film protection over the rear end. Not so much for chip protection but for protection against swirls and scratches. The back of my car took a real beating this summer primarily from road debris that accumulated on the back end during normal driving. As careful as I was cleaning off the debris, I still managed lots of swirls and scratches in that area. The film should keep the marring down to a minimum for next year. I also recommend getting several coats of a ceramic sealant applied to the entire car including over the film. It will make cleaning and maintaining the finish that much easier. I would also consider purchasing a foam cannon or gun, a blow dryer of some sort (I have a Masterblaster) and as many high quality microfiber towels as you can afford. There's no question, black can be a bitch to keep clean... but when it's clean, it is the most awesome color. Especially on the 6th gen ZL1.

I ordered a mosaic black ZL1, but then changed the order to Hyper Blue. I saw a Mosaic Black SS on the lot and it really showed the dust. I had a black GT3. Loved it clean, but it was only clean for 10 minutes. It didn't stay clean. I get the appeal of black, but I just couldn't do it again.

What was your feeling going from the GT3 to the ZL1. GT3 has been a dream car and there a few lightly used ones floating around south Florida, but for the cost of the ZL1 I have a hard time finding a better bang for the buck. The next purchase may see the track 3-4 times a year - I just have zero interest for the C2 or C2S.
