Yes, the headliner is what you're seeing in the picture! It looks disgusting :( I totally agree with you. It's just not acceptable.

you have a sunroof? other owners on here have had their headliner fixed under warranty.
I do have a gopro. What you're suggesting isn't not a bad idea! I'm taking it to the dealer on tuesday. I also don't have a sunroof on the car. I know they can fix the headliner but I'm not sure how they're going to fix the paint!

I owned a 5th gen before this. I agree with you. I feel like the car was better built in some ways!

You have a point. The roof shouldn't be that flimsy. It can't be wax because i tried everything to take it off. When you look closely, you can see that the window has the paint of the car on it. It's hard to explain. I know one thing for certain, it's definitely not something that was there when I bought the car. I've been closely inspecting every single inch of this thing since the day I took it off the lot.

Yea... it's sad. My expectations have been so high for this car.

As for the smudges, you have a logical explanation, but I dont think the rear glass could make contact with that part of the roof without breaking the seal. Must be some sort of wax/residue. See if it comes up with a claybar.

I suppose its also possible that the paint could be damaged in that region if the glass was ever replaced, or when it was initially installed. Maybe you just havent noticed it until now.
I'm glad everybody is saying that the headliner will be fixed. Makes me feel a bit better about the entire thing. It's weird because if you look at the glass closely, you can see that the paint has been smudged on to it. The car was at 10 miles or something when I picked it up. I'm going to take your advice anyway and use a claybar after the dealer checks it out on tuesday!

I just walked out to my car in pitch black darkness, turned a flashlight on by the marks, wiped it with a microfiber cloth and it looks like it's gone. If that's the case, I'm an idiot. I'll give you guys an update once I take a closer look in the AM

With that said, when you close the trunk (ie. when there's an abrupt change in cabin pressure), watch the center section of the roof sheet metal and you can see it move a little.
Yup! I hate it. It bothers the crap out of me. My 5th gen didn't have that problem AT ALL.

Keep your zl1. The 5th gen was a beauty. The only reason I got this car was because I had a v6 automatic 5th gen before it. It was never what I wanted. Just had to settle at that time. Now I'm happy with a M6 SS. Except I'd be happier if stupid things like the headliner falling off didn't happen

Thank you to everybody who replied on this forum. I took advice from a couple of you and smudged the "paint marks" with a microfiber cloth. It's currently dark and rainy in daytona beach, FL. So, I will take a closer look at it in the AM and keep you guys posted. As for the headliner, I set up and appointment on tuesday morning. I'll give everybody an update on tuesday. Thanks again. You guys are awesome!

Hey everybody! The "scratches" came off. As for the headliner, it's covered under warranty. It will be fixed sometime next week.

The headliner was probably not completely clipped in to begin with. If you enjoy opening the window at speed, on many cars, you will have to deal with the problem (and noise) of buffeting. The rear window area is like a pocket. When you drive with the side windows down the pressure builds in the pocket until it becomes higher than the incoming air, and then exits the side windows. The cycle repeats and it sounds like a helicopter.
This phenomenon of buffeting has been known to dislodge headliners on multiple vehicles. It can even cause roof panels to separate and sunroof parts to leak.

Jeez! Yes, I had figured out that the headliner had become the way it did due changes of pressure within the cabin. You’re absolutely right about me driving high speed with the window down. I love he rush of air. But, as you said, I do hear the noise from the roof and it does sound like a helicopter. Can’t believe how flimsy the roof is. It flutters. What a poorly designed car... You’d expect a “sports” car to not have these kinds of issues.
