The car doesn't know which motor is in it. Can you imagine opening up the hood on a 5th Gen and seeing a 1969 427 snugged in there? Probably not as fast as the modded current motor, but wow appeal!

I think if you claim you have a camaro, you should have the base parts of a camaro and build up from there.

Not just wear the camaro shell and strap a 632 Merlin inside. Just my two cents :-)
If you've got the balls to drive it..

For me, it's got more to do with the body and suspension. Someone who puts a big cubic inch hot motor in a door slammer has a better claim than someone racing a carbon fiber and lexan shell with "Camaro" painted on it over a tube frame.

Now you've got four cents.

I'd love to do an LS7 (with head upgrade) swap on an s550 Mustang.

Cars and Coffee would be fun.

I understand what everyone is saying, everyone thinks the shell makes the car. I just happen to think the whole package makes the car. Oh well. No biggie.
FYI, the C7 is only rated at 460hp with NPP.

Back to your original post. This isn't a Camaro?

Ok ok that's extreme I know. But IMO this is when a car stops being whatever it is labeled. Another example with be a NASCAR. If they did not start out life as an assembly line, sold at a dealer Camaro...then it isn't one to me. Yes that includes COPOs, since they have no VINs and were never "sold and produced" for the general public. COPOs have more in common with that funny car than they do a 6th gen sitting a dealership.

For instance redline redline (old link) is claiming to try and build the fastest camaro...But they changed the base engine to a 427. I call this cheating.

I think Hennessey builds off the 427 as well.

Anyone have any thoughts? Curious...
But, the 427 is a camaro engine.

I follow what you're saying. To an extent, I agree. If you modify the engine it came with (boring it out to larger ci) it's still that car, just has been modified. I also think th engine is one of the very important parts of the car, but there are many other factors in what makes the car. Changing the entire engine to something else completely, and the tranny, and the axles, and the diff, and suspension. Well now you have a car that looks like a Camaro but has been completely altered lol

It is actually exactly the same. The only difference is the name on the valve cover plastic lol. Even the engine tune is the same. When the LT1 is made it could go to either of the two cars. The C7 is rated 460 but the fine print says *with NPP the Camaro is 455 but the options show you +5hp with NPP. They can't advertise them as the same HP because the vette has to be a notch above the Camaro lol.
According to my salesman p, the 6th gen Camaro is the first time Chevy put the exact vette engine in another car off the floor. They have offered the same motor in the past but it would be tunes different, have different core parts etc... to make that engine produce slightly less than the vette. I've not confirmed that this is the first they have done it officially though.

The Camaro LT1 has tri-y headers. The C7 cast manifolds. So there is a slight difference. Also the Vette has had HP gains with NPP since it became an option. Even when the LS3 in the camaro still had a lower rating compared to the C6 LS3. You can speculate why but protecting it is definitely not what is being done anymore.

I don't believe salesmen as far as I can throw them. I bet they can't tell you why the peak torque is 100rpm lower 455lb-ft at 4400. Something is a miss here...anyways...we are getting off the path....

Don't trust salesmen, ever! Haha

Doesn't matter what's powering it will always be a Camaro!

These shops put a 427 in there to avoid the shortcomings of the stock block and cause it's tried and proven already (easier to make big power)
