I wasn't impressed with Tesla until the Model S. And they keep making it better! Still need some time and better batteries before electric vehicles are ready for prime-time...but it'll get there, eventually.

I do wonder how many times they can do that run without the battery being too drained. I think it'll be part of the future but I believe for performance cars, hybrids will be more likely. Batteries don't allow you to run on a track for long and they are very heavy.

Eh, ZL1 is a jack of all trades, master of none.

"A 911 GT3 is faster than a ZL1 on a road course."
"A Hellcat is faster from a roll."
"A Tesla beats it from a dig."
"A Prius gets better MPG."
"A Camry can handle rear passengers better."

All of those are true. But, swap any car with any of the comparison criteria, and the ZL1 wins. It's quite simply in the top 5 in almost any competition, whereas most cars can't even compete in more than 1-2 things.

A fair point...I'll admit freely I drool over the tech found in each of the Hypercar Triumvirate...

Take a look at how far electrics have progressed in that last 5 years. I am not all that keen on this transition as I absolutely love our traditional Muscle and Sports cars. the next 5 years will be the turning point and a "coming out" so to speak for the Tesla type vehicles. Unfortunately the reciprocating, internal combustion engine is not long for this world in passenger vehicles.

132 MPH trap speed says it all. This was staged against the wrong ZL1. 6M ZL1 with that trap is running 10.7-10.8 or lower on a 1.6-1.7 sixty foot.

Props to the Telsa though. 10.7 at 121 MPH which is crazy when you think about it. All torque and flat throughout the power band.

Exhaust sound is a major part of what makes fast cars fun and invigorating. Electric cars do nothing for me. All you hear is road noise and electric motor noise. I hope they never make any more gain in the market than they have now.

Most guys like us have don't favor electrics at this point but there is no logical reason to deny the inevitable and that being the conversion to electrics with a transitional phase of some hybrids. The process is underway as energy storage and fuel cell technology rapidly advances. The days of the internal combustion engine in our personal vehicles are numbered whether we know it or not or like it or not.

Yeah I caught that as well. Almost as he shifted while still spinning.

I agree hybrids will take over long before all electric vehicles become the norm. We are decades away from having the infrastructure to charge an all electric car as quickly and conveniently as pulling into a gas station. Until that happens, the all electric car will remain a very small segment of the automotive market.

Depends on what your into. At the road course, it will go into limp mode and get smoked by 99% of cars on thr road. Low top speed, quick to cook batteries.

Tanner Faust showed this. Basically, he was driving a Tesla and said that it was the fastest of all the cars (don't remember what else there was). But, it was also the least fun. Just wouldn't let you do anything like spin tires, slide, etc.

Are these the same ZL1 drivers that say they drive the Automatic trans because it's more fun or because it's faster?

I feel the same. I absolutely could never drive an electric car. I get absolutely no satisfaction from them. The damn thing could fly me to the moon and I wouldn't be satisfied. I want some noise. I want some rumble. I want to feel like I'm experiencing something.

Might just be me, but I really can't stand electric cars.
