I have yet to know what it's like to drive my Camaro on the factory tires. Had all seasons installed the day I picked it up.
True, but I'm in Houston. So, to your point, you are spot on. I can daily it as it never gets too cold. Forgot about you Northern folks. Yea, a Z06 or Zl1 for that matter wouldn't work too well year round. Esp snow on the ground. Anyhow, we shall carry on.

Oh sorry, I just looked at your location on your sig and thought "Katy" was short for Kentucky lol.

Yeah today's high is 24 and it's going down to 14 tonight. Chance of snow all week this week. Corvettes just wouldn't be happy in this weather lol

Yea, I'd never hook up. Would be like driving on hockey pucks. haha. I mean, I could drive, but I'd have to be in ECO mode.

Car and Driver did a review after they left one out ALL NIGHT in Detroit during an arctic blast of -26 before wind chill:

Driving a car like this in the winter is all about the tires. I put Perelli Sottozero winter tires on mine between Thanksgiving and Easter and thought Car and Driver summed it up best in this months long term test review of the SS.

Quote:
Winter prep has only made our Camaro more entertaining. It's Perelli Sottozero Series II winter tires squirm for mercy with every meaningful jab at the throttle, likely prompting this logbook note: "This thing can barely contain its rage. It's a berserker." Yes it is.
I've seen density altitude of -4500 this winter. The car is absolutely wild to drive hard, commanding full attention and respect. In a very good way.

I have a friend that drives a Z51 year round too. I just find the Camaro more comfortable and easier to live with every day.

I looked at both and went Vette:

Excellent point!

It just depends on what best suits you and your needs. I'd go with the Zl1 over the GS tho. I'm in a Z06 now, so it would take me a McLaren to trade up.
Don't be so sure.. I've owned Corvettes for 20 years and the SS caught my eye when I was looking. I love my Corvettes but after 20 years I was ready for a Muscle car for a change. I've got a buddy that after three new Corvettes he sold his last Corvette and fixing to order a new ZL1. By no means am I saying this is a trend or in most cases but I see people trend both directions on buying between the Chevrolet family
I do agree, both cars can offer some fun times and great memories to their owners

Well, It depends on who you ask...LOL. While we are talking about a different price point. The base Corvette coupe is $50,000.00 and the ZO6 base is $80,00.00. I'm sure the new ZR1 will be around $90,000.00. So your talking a swing of $40,000.00 in car. I bet the ZR1 or Z06 guy wouldn't like hearing " Is that the base Corvette Coupe"

So Corvette does kinda have their own "pretender/cheapie model"

ummm...pardon me but my 6 cylinder RS is not pretending.if it had v-8,supercharged,or was rebadged as an SS it would be a pretender.instead its a fairly luxurious, practical car that i can drive everyday and carry grandma and a couple of grandkids in a pinch.i didnt need the v-8 or track package,i just dont drive like that and i would be pretending if i said i did.not every camaro has/needs to have a v-8,just as not every vette is a Z06

isn't the stingray/gs the pretender model? I mean i can get a stingray for the price of a fully loaded SS.

I got my 2SS with moonroof/NPP/MRC for the price of a moderately equipped 2LT.

I don't know if you can get a brand new Stingray for that price lol..... my Mom's 2016 Stingray stickered for $72k and she paid $60k out the door. Hers is a 2LT/Z51/automatic with carbon fiber spoiler and mirrors and 20" chrome wheels.

I guess if you got a 1LT with zero options, you might get it CLOSE to sticker for a fully loaded 2SS. But if you negotiate for the 2SS like you do for the Stingray, your 2SS price gets proportionally cheaper too.

I would hardly call the GS a "pretender". It has everything the Z06 offers with the exception of the LT4 engine. While, yes, having 200 less ponies, makes it less of a chest pounding brute, for the pragmatic Corvette buyer, it hits a perfect mark. In reality, there are probably only a handful of people, that are not professional drivers, that could even begin to tap the capabilities of the Z06 on a track. So, why would anyone want to drop an extra $20-$30K for anything other than a proposition in ego feeding?
