So I confess, before I bought my manual 6, I only had a weekend's worth of experience learning to drive stick in an 05 Acura RSX . I feel like learning is very simple, and it's actually quite smooth in the camaro. Of course I had my once or twice stalling out moments, but other than that it was smooth sailing. I drove all the way from florida to naval station Norfolk after a week of owning my camaro, and I didn't have a single problem.

A good trick for learning the feel of the clutch is to practice releasing and engaging it on level ground with the engine at idle. See if you can get the car rolling in 1st gear without giving any gas.
I read this tip on the internet about 20 years after I had learned. I have used it several times to help people get started with a manual and I think it is a very useful exercise.

You'll catch on quickly.
If you have a good salesman ask him to show you on a demo Camaro or even one of their used cars on the lot that's a standard. It's not that hard, over the years I have gone back and forth from auto to standard.

Easy to learn for sure, it'll take a bit before you're smooth with it. I taught a buddy of mine and in 20 minutes he was out on his own. It wasn't the most graceful spectacle I'd ever seen but he was doing it. Within about a week he wasn't even thinking about it.

I bought a manual without ever driving a manual transmission car, but I did have experience with driving semi trucks which don't have synchros, which means you have to double clutch to shift.

but still, the difference was night and day, and I stalled the Camaro right off the lot, and then at least 3 more times that day lol... and then another 5 times within the next 7 days, and from then on since I got it in march of 2016 I have stalled no more than 3 times, with my last stall happening in june of last year...

so don't worry, you will be fine with some pracitce.

I learned how to drive stick on a 72 Triumph with none of the fancy gizmos and assists. After buying a modern stick car it was like going to heaven. I would recommend learning on a miata or a very light two seat car. Light cars will be more forgiving and easier to get moving. Typically dealerships dont like people learning on new cars they have not purchased. When I sold my m6 formula back in the day the kid that bought it didn't know how to drive stick either. I took him out to a large open parking lot and he had it down in the hour..... i miss that car......

That's what I did when I bought my '14 SS. Never had I ever driven a manual before, but it had to be done. No one I knew had one, or was willing to teach me. It'll be the most rewarding experience. Just make sure that you don't accelerate too much while holding the clutch.

I had driven manuals before, but never owned a manual car. Just take it easy, read about how a manual transmission and clutch work, and go for it. A couple weeks of daily driving and you'll be a pro

Arguably the hardest part on a manual is an inclined start in first gear, but the Camaro has hill assist, and that makes it a snap.

I learned on my dads 92 toyota pickup. If i burned up the clutch, it was a cheap and easy fix, so he wasn't worried. With a 41k + car, please don't let your very first car you learn in be your brand new Camaro. Lol

Buying the manual is a good idea. My daughter wanted a Mini for her first car and I insisted she get a manual. She had the car for five years and doesn't regret it one bit, even though she upsized to an auto Buick Enclave since (and I bought her Mini ). Now she'll always know how to drive a manual, while her husband never learned.

My advice would be to have someone else drive it home from the dealer with you, so that you could practice on your own in a safe place later, rather than being thrown into the fire at the dealership.

There are countless YouTube instructional videos on driving a manual, but Matt Farrah has an exceptionally good one on his channel The Smoking Tire. It's especially good for a Camaro because his instruction is focused towards performance cars with lots of power.

Yes. I owned a '12 SS auto and wanted to experience the M6. I love it! The sales rep who sold me the car taught me how to drive stick in about an hour in a different vehicle on the lot. Took me about a week to get the nervousness out after driving around town and about a month or so before I stopped stalling. I love the feeling of actually driving the car and I won't look back.

I bought a 1975 Buick Skyhawk hatchback used in 1980 and couldn't drive a manual. Had to get one of the guys at the used car lot to drive me home in it. I took him back in one of my parents cars that was an automatic. The salesman I bought from thought I was crazy to buy a car I couldn't drive off the lot but I wanted the car and didn't much matter. My Dad tried to help me learn but no patience and a neighbor took over and helped me. It took a few days but with practice you can learn. The biggest thing with me was getting the gas and clutch action together. Don't sweat it. You'll be alright. Good luck and remember that not everyone nowadays can't drive a manual trans car and you can brag about that!
