New car sales across all segments are sliding. Manufacturers with labor contracts are stuck with a glut of inventory because they couldn't fully adapt to the change in market conditions.

If it wasn't for very steep discounting all around for Nov/Dec, the Q4 sales spike probably wouldn't have happened at all.

But the Camaro is still overpriced compared to the competition that the general public looks at it having (pony/muscle cars). On top of that, the Camaro interior is lauded for simplicity but booed for its' lack of cabin storage which makes it impractical as a daily driver. The Corvette is supposed to be the impractical vehicle, but they have more storage space within driver reach than the Camaro. Oh and the new Camaro doesn't fit full sized clubs anymore like the 5th gen, which I never realized until this year was such an important test of utility.

The next Mustang will likely have a price increase for the catch up they played with the Camaro in terms of tech -- but I don't think Ford will risk losing segment leader status by bumping prices over 10% like GM did.

It wasn't Winter last January and every preceding January?

They stopped the 20% off and sales are back in the toilet.

Looks like they need more incentives to bring people in!!
I would have one by now if it was not so close to 50K!

GM can't discount the Camaro for the remainder of it's production run..it's simply not practical.

Individual dealers can always discount a car and cut into their individual profits, but GM can't constantly be throwing down big cash on the hoods of the Camaro to make it sell.

Camaro is the most expensive out of all 3. Also didn't GM say they aren't selling the 6th Gen to rentals/fleet?

I also assume a lot of people who owned the 5th Gen decided that they've driven a Camaro so now the next car has to be a different brand/style/dimension etc. instead of getting a Camaro again.

Of course it was. Look at the charts in the OP. Everybody takes a dip during the winter months, especially January.

It's just uncertainty from trump, people don't want to do a large non-essential purchase right now

Out of all the reasons, in my opinion, number one it's pricing. They sold quite good with 20% off, more in line with what a Camaro buyer it's used to.
I was considering upgrading to a gen6 2SS but at current prices they are very close to Corvette C7 teritorry and somewhat out of my range and so for now i'll stick to my gen5.
I followed cars.com sales for the last 2-3 months, not a whole lot of sales, same cars listed for months...

That is why I upgraded. 25% off a 2016 was enough to get me to take the plunge. Otherwise, I would have waited. I think that incentive ran out January 5th though.

You're in luck that the Gen 5 is still a very good car and a tremendous platform for upgrades.

Yes it is a great car! And that makes it even harder to get motivated to move to a gen6 if the price is not VERY attractive.

Like SomeGeoffGuy said, I'd move to a new one for 25% off. That would be motivating enough for me to make the move.
