While it may contribute "some" to overall fuel economy, it only does so on flat no load roads. My Silverado rarely see's the 4 cylinder mode yet a lighter vehicle may benefit a bit more.

It will be interesting to see what the newer trucks from GM will do with lower mass and 10 speed automatic transmissions.

I have seen some real world fuel economy test where GMs 6.2L 8 speed truck beats Fords 3.5EB 6 speed combo.

Could this mean that the Z/28 could be developed along side the race car ala Corvette Z06 and will have a race minded dry-symp 6.2?

The displacement tax takes a big jump at 4L.

My current take on the Z/28 is it will be a 1LE chassis with weight reduction possibly via lightweight body panels. The motor will have over 500 hp and will probably be used in a Corvette model also to spread development costs.

At the end of the day, there has to be something about the Z28 to distinguish it from the ZL1. Based on the past that something isn't going to be more HP.

I agree.....and I believe that the Gen 6 Z/28 engine will be this exact LT1/Dry Sump that is in the GT4.R and may have more HP in street form than GT4.R form.

This was exactly what happened with the Gen 5 Z/28 and Z/28.R as the R version had less HP due to series restrictions as I believe that the RPM's were limited and some other restrictions were added to "de-tune" it for the racing series from the 505HP street version.

My hope is that this GT4.R is really, really, really close to the Gen 6 Z/28.

Getting impatient like everyone else!!

Impatient you may be, but I don't see a Z/28 before fall as a 2018. A reveal could be earlier. The GT4.R motor is a likely candidate.

The GT4.R is running an LT1, so that wouldn't be a Z/28 engine. It needs a lot more power than that.
