Yeah, I'm gonna pay out of pocket for this and I found a place in MD that's cheaper than what safelite is asking.

Yah, I have a safelite windshield in my STi. It's garbage. Weird refraction where it bends around the edges. The plastic and rubber trim seals just are not quite right, partly an issue with the install work and partly the parts are just different and substandard. It does the job. I mean, it is a windshield. It's fine. But if you have the choice and if you are concerned about it being "right", which you seem to be since you posted, then seek out a more local business with an established reputation in your town, rather than a big chain with name recognition from mass advertising.

It's not to say that you can't get a good install and product from safelite. I am sure they have many happy customers, but I'm not among them in my sample of one semi-recent experience. Good luck.

Anyone besides me find it ironic that the banner on this page right now is for safelite?

There is no safe bet, I had a chip on my 370z windshield about 2 years ago now. A simple replacement ended in the following.....

-They broke my rearview mirror had to replace it
-Scratched my interior a pillar cover and replaced that
-Gave me a defective window that had a huge blurry spot had to replace that
-Then the fun begins, they broke all the clips on my trim pieces and according to the bodyshop, they used a saw to try to remove the covers and cut into the headliner.

In total 4500.00 in damage for a new windshield.

That doesn't sound good at all I found a local shop near me and from the reviews I've seen they look like they do a good job at what they do. Very friendly too.

Also, I wouldn't let something like this scare the crap out of you. It's windshield glass. They get chipped and crack sometimes. It's kind of a fact of life and out of your control. I think putting an aftermarket film, and especially tint, on your windshield is ill advised, especially if the reason is solely to try to mitigate the risk of chips or cracks. Have you looked into glass coverage with your insurance? It is rather cheap coverage and often included with your comprehensive coverage.

That aside, $350 for an OEM windshield is frankly dirt cheap.
True. I'm going to have a talk with my insurance company about glass coverage. They didn't offer me any coverage for the loaner. The dealer ship did me dirty i feel like because a horrible storm past through while I had the loaner and debris cracked the windshield. I felt like it wasn't my fault at all but oh well...live and learn i guess.

Mine never has. I have replaced probably 3 or 4 over the past 25 years.

I'd tell them to pound sand, personally, and I certainly would *not* go back to them again (this assumes you have other service options). Seems just really not cool, and not in their best business interest to treat a customer that poorly.

Oh nice! Yeah, just called a local glass shop and they're charging me a lot less that what safelite is charging and they're going to use Pilkington brand.
