He, and the GM engineers he worked with feel the car is best suited to the current tire width set up, and that a significant alteration in width will dramatically alter the handing characteristics of the car. He did, however, say that dropping down to a 19 or an 18 would be a good idea so that a dedicated track tire could be used. He had a lot of positive things to say about the OEM G3's, but the main concern was their inability to take multiple heat cycles, so they go off rather quickly. I believe all the testing was done totally stock, meaning stock pads and fluid as well. I'm going to ask about this specifically though next time we chat. Also, he mentioned it could potentially use a tad bit more front bar.
Did he say if they werr running any negative camber?

1LE is definitely bread to live at the track off the showroom floor..... anything that can safely AND consistently put down supercar lap times is remarkable... especially ours coming with the added coolers, 10L oil, 2 piece rotors.

But the wheels are trying to be a DO IT ALL set [which is the main draw the the daily drivable track car anyway] I'd prefer a lighter 19 like some.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 22lbs TSW interlagos 19x9.5/10.5 @300 each
The Rohana RCF5 19x9.5/11 I believe are 20 or 21lbs range not confirmed yet @ $400 each

I'm interested in the apex someone posted might be worth looking at also

Dropping 20 or 30 lbs off the wheels easily will shave 1-3 seconds off lap times depending on the track

APEX wheels are very popular in the m3 crowd and have no problems handling track duty. Probably one of the most popular track wheel sets for that car. I'm going to have to disagree with a lighter wheel taking 2-3 seconds off per lap, that is a HUGE amount of time.

1-2 seconds on lightweight wheels is realistic strictly between accelerating you'll likely pull 1or2 car lengths on each straight section [10-30 feet per straight] and heavy breaking zones be able to start braking 15-30 feet later,

Multiple each of those a couple times per lap a total yield around 100-300 feet saved per lap coming around equals 1-2 seconds shaved easily
- my personal exp and data using lightweight forged wheels and magnesium on other track vehicles

Based on testing with DAQ I still think that is pushing it. But, an argument for another time. It certainly can't hurt yah!

I'd love for someone to make some 19" track capable lightweight versions of the new 1LE wheel design or the Gen 5 Z28 design.... so far no luck...

I might consider these.... they claim 25 lbs... 20's... Makes me wonder how light they could make 19's....

Has Anyone else had that problem?

yes the only problem with those wheels is the width, it will be a downgrade compared to OEM size even if the offsets are correct

There is a section in the manual that outlines the procedure for preparing the car for the track. This includes installing the "Tall Deflector" and "Small Splash Guard" to the front brakes. These items, I believe, are supposed to be in the trunk on delivery. Am I wrong, did this change?

Yep the air deflectors for the brakes are different and already installed from the factory on the 1LE and there are no air deflectors in front of the front tires either. The only pre-track day preparations you would need to do is brake fluid and oil change.

I plan on sticking with stock setup until the tires are toast, then put some reasonable street tires on the stock wheels (eg: Conti Extreme Contact DW) then get a set of 18s with NT01s or similar. I do like 5-10 day/year so it may take me a while depending on how well these tires last... I've ruined front tires on different cars after 1 or 2 days .. hopefully not the case with these tires.
