Nah man, if you change the spoiler the car may just boomerang off the road!
Jk. I don't think it will impact the car in a very noticable fashion either way. It will impact it but doubt anyone in here will notice. |

i asked this very same spoiler question a few months back. I recieved negitive feedback. Yes i agree that if you are tracking the car at high speeds it "could" mess with the performance of the car but for those of us that are weekend warriors that just show the car off and or mess with other cars on the street. I don't think it would hurt car at all to swap out the rear spoiler.
I like the idea that i can swap out spoilers if i wanted to. I can't wait for some aftermarket companies to start production on these new spoilers that are showcased at SEMA. That being said, i will not put ugly spoiler on that car, it will be tastful and look great. |

I think the 1LE rear spoiler and wheels would look killer on the ZL1.

Is there any logical reason in the world to think the engineering could be improved over what GM put into testing to change the wing for anything other than looks?? To me, this is simply illogical unless your interests simply lie with cruising main street.
Maybe I'm just a purist but changing anything that doesn't translate into better performance is foolish. |

I'd like to see GM offer the option of having the spoiler and mirror caps painted carbon flash metallic or the matching finish of the front lip and side skirts.

Of course replacing anything on a car that affects it aero is going to alter the vehicle's handling dynamics, but 1) most of us will rarely reach the cusp of where this is noticeable, 2) swapping a spoiler will not transform the aggressive handling characteristics of a zl1 into that of an econoline van, and 3) unless any of us have a wind tunnel next to the in-law's room in our basement, who's to say that the new spoiler will actually be detrimental at all? There's a possibility it may improve performance....maybe. Any aftermarket spoiler will still create downforce, which will vary from one design to the next. Also, Camaro is a mass marketed vehicle. So inherently, the zl1 is no pagani where every component is bespoke to it and it alone with costs being a nonfactor. So for all the talk about perfect wind tunnel testing, you can't ignore the fact that gm is still on a budget, and sharing body panels with cheaper models and cutting costs where they can is why we're able to buy these for under $65k. Maybe they could have gone with a more expensive and exotic z06 style spoiler where the additional costs were passed along to us, but they could have concluded that a spoiler won't make or break a person's decision to purchase. That's pure speculation on my part. GM has done the best they can given the fact zl1 is a roided up version of a car starting at $25K. P.S...if I die a fiery death by going airborne at 117 mph on Road Atlanta with my acs spoiler, disregard everything I said above. |

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna leave mine the way it comes for a couple years then I'll take a look at what's out there. I like the new wing, but I do want to see what others look like.

Nevertheless - you CAN notice proper aero tuning at 45-60 and above. Especially on a track. If you haven't experienced this, then you're missing out. Z/28 aero is particularly aggressive, as is the Z06. You can feel it, and it sounds like the ZL1 is right up there... No...swapping a spoiler/wing won't toss you off the track - and no, there isn't anything tragic going to occur - you are correct...But please...don't be so naive as to assume that, literally, over a hundred hours of wind-tunnel testing was for naught. There is a balance at speed, that will be thrown off with alterations to the aero kit. That all said....if people want to change it - go for it!! My original comment in this thread (can't speak for others), was simply meant to be a small voice in the corner informing people that there WILL be a performance effect...not dramatic...but real enough. If that doesn't matter to you or others - more power to you!! I hope you find a spoiler/wing that you like the looks of. For my part? I'm crossing my fingers that they'll release that big wing and front canards off the Nurburgring test mule...

I originally admitted that I was speculating on WHY GM decided to go that design instead of another one. However I don't think it's naīve to think that cost wasn't a factor. Imo, they weren't going to build a new trunk lid specifically for the zl1. So overall the Camaro design/cost would dictate that they had to build the zl1 spoiler around 3 mounting points, and it's that middle stanchion that unquestionably kills the looks for me. Had they given us this exact design without that, then this spoiler goes from a zero to a absolute hero for my personal tastes. To each their own though, and for those of us who won't be frequently hitting speeds where that downforce truly is NEEDED to keep the car planted and stable, I think the more realistic side effects of an aftermarket spoiler have been over exaggerated by some. |

I do believe the Zl1 spoiler is rather hideous imho. I was looking and if I were to buy one (doubtful I would) the first thing to get modded would be the rear spoiler lol.
