I am a Quality Engineer and I work at the GM Wentzville Assembly Plant where we make the Colorado and Canyon pickups. I know how to look at paint.

The pictures I saw show definite thin paint. It appears that they got the paint program down sometime after that. Once a program is set, there is very little variation. Unfortunately it's one of the drawbacks about buying at the beginning of a brand new model (in this case, brand new model, brand new platform and brand new plant - for Camaro).

I am in warranty calls every week and believe me, paint issues are not unique in the industry.

You are the first person from GM that acknowledges the problem that I have heard from! Kudos! Since it's common how does GM take care of their customers? I'm curious, because it seems like a lot of people have been told to just deal with it.

This would help more people figure out if their paint has issues. I'm curious if mine has any issues. I'm wondering what to look for as I don't know how to look at paint.

I haven't found and am not going searching for paint issues. The cure is worse than the disease IMO. There is no way I want a partial or total body shop repaint on my car.

If you care to pursue this your best bet is to collect manufacture dates from the problem cars and try to find the specific period of build time when the paint application was too light in areas.
