I agree, with this system, you have to move the sound stage back a little. the standard setting is too front heavy. I rather feel the music around me, I fade to the rear 2 back and have treble and mid all the way up and Bass at plus 2

+1

I think the sound system is fine. This is not the environment for the greatest sound system on earth. That would interfere with the soundtrack from the LT1 and NPP. That's the true music of this car.

You're not supposed to leave it in 1st gear for your entire trip!

I have the 2ss and like Glen, I too got to experience the added sub in the C7 BOSE system and to me made the system right on the edge of satisfaction for me. I am very surprised that they could not make that happen in the G6 it was basically housed in the back panel behind the license plate on the inside. That said if you take the time when you are downloading /copying the files and make sure that they are done in a higher res (320) you will be amazed at the difference in the sound of your system...

I can't seem to get a nice clean flat frequency response out of the system. Boomy and indistinct.

I have a convertible with 1LT and Techp Pkg. IIRC, that's the same stereo as on the 2LT. It is THE WORST stereo I've ever had in a car, and the BEST stereo I've ever had in a convertible. Top up, stereo sucks, badly. No mid range, no base. Try to imagine a battery operated Bluetooth speaker stuck inside the HVAC. That's what it sounds like.

Top down, however, everything is crystal clear. Great system for cruising with the top down. You hear EVERYTHING.

So there, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Just go topless everywhere, at least that's what I tell my wife!

I'm having issues with the speakers in my rear deck. GM replaced two of them in July that were actually blown after about 6 weeks. (I've never turned the system up past 3/4) And now it's sounding like the replacement speaker on the driver's side rear corner has failed again. They're going to need to test the circuit because something is wrong. Plus, there's a low-frequency vibration in the rear deck that is present at idle whether the stereo is powered on or not that GM did not remedy when the car was there in July.

Other than that, I LOVE the Bose system in my 2SS.

No sub is it's main drawl back compared to the HK in my prior 328i. Couple that with no real EQ (Bose you do not know how to tune for everyone's tastes so stop trying) and it's a decent system. Nothing that will wow you, nothing that will make you not want to use it either. But like others have said, an SS with NPP and RFTs is by par a noisy environment. So most of the issues aren't even noticeable. I didn't expect it to be as good as the HK I had before. So I'm happy with it until someone comes out with an easy way to change out the factory amp.

Do you think that most of the "coloring" is coming from the amp, as opposed to the speakers?

From what I've read in the Audio section, Bose is tailoring the curves at the amp. The best workaround has been a standalone processor where you can "tune out" their curve to get a true flat signal. But that's a good junk of change just for that.

Hmm. Thanks for the info. So, something in between the amp and the speakers? If you or anyone can point me toward any info on that, I would really appreciate it.

I haven't seen anyone do a thorough analysis of the speaker level outputs from the stock Bose system, or any subsequent signal summing to get a true flat signal. This is probably doable with some high end stuff. Maybe JL audio cleansweep would work, but I have not seen it mentioned in the audio threads. It is definitely worth pursuing, as is modifying the microphone levels to preserve the ANC. If you amp the speaker signals, I can't see why you can't use some trimmer pots on the microphone lines and preserve the ANC.
