I can't believe people are debating whether or not someone has the right to remove a tracking device from their car.
1) it's their car 2) it's there choice - or atleast should be End of discussion |

Though, it's the internet, and a car forum, so hyperbole and appeals to emotion falling into ad-hominems in short order should be expected... |

the pic shows it with the black plastic panel unscrewed and removed. Again on the passenger side of the dash under the very end of dash (near bottom of firewall). They made it more difficult to get to this time around but it is definitely straight forward once you locate it (which was half the battle).

So ya - people acted pretty uncivil towards a person simply wanting to remove a device from their car. I'm glad you like your onstar. I'd be interested in hearing what you like about it - I havent found any value in mine. |

Great thanks. Now, from what I understand if you remove OnStar completely you lose the Bluetooth speaker/microphone. So now we need to figure out how to disable the transceiver while retaining Bluetooth. My guess is that you will have to actually open the OnStar box itself and unplug the harness that powers the transceiver circuit while keeping everything else connected and powered.

I like how intrusive Onstar is. It records my location, speed, tells me how low my oil is, tire pressure, locks, ignition etc. They also send me frequent reminders about how I can give them more money!!! It's basically like having someone in your car, when there really isn't anyone in the car.........

the onstar's cell radio is likely a daughter board that can be removed. you can then reconnect and should have all the hands free ability still working but onstar completely unable to send or receive data.
This would be ideal. I'll look into this asap. I've had my onstar's fuse pulled since bringing the car home in february. Was waiting for the Helmes manual that still isn't out yet to get the physical location but now I can jump ahead Thanks!

BTW, you dont lose bluetooth in general by disabling or disconnecting onstar. You just lose the bluetooth microphone. everything else Bluetooth continues to work just fine.
