1) Buyer's remorse on a car is heartbreaking and expensive
2) My 6MT is one of the best manual trans I've ever owned. The clutch is very linear, and engages smoothly, the pedal placement is PERFECT, and the shifter is short and sweet.

I've owned Miatas, S2000's, Fucus ST's, late model Audi A3 and A4's, as well as several BMW's from when a BMW was something to be proud of. All with manual transmissions. Save for the Honda and the Mazda, my Camaro's 6 MT is my favorite. Don't miss out, you'll regret it.

One last point, if you get the 6MT, you'll have an instant classic:
Manual trans
RWD
Naturally aspirated V8

Probably the last of its kind...

transmission

Just a thought, if you ever do any type of street drag racing or even 1/4 mile drag at a track, go with the auto, you will not loose a race.

Wive been driving manuals for the past 30 or 40 years...

Today's eight speed automatic is so good I'd suggest going for a test drive of each...whatever year and then decide.

I'm debating the same thing and with the automatic eight speed being quicker I think my mind is made up.

Test drive both to decide and good luck...

Sounds like an automatic 8 speed would be the way to go with your commute.

Ps...watch the smoking tire one take on you tube. Even though they prefer the manual...just listen to the camaro 2ss convertible automatic. That thing sounded amazing...

Also Chris freeze just traded in his six speed 5 th gen zL1 and got a 2ss camaro 6 th fen convertible and he loves it...listen to his podcast Sunday around noon...he should go into great detail of manual versus 8 speed automatic in tommorows podcast...

His is a weekend toy and he loves the automatic....

Zero to sixty in 3.9 seconds versus 4.2 for the manual makes the decision a little easier too...

Still best best...go test drive both to decide..

Jmo

I have found if you stick with your first intention you will be much happier with your decision. If you really want a manual then just stick to that. The manual is so easy on this car (clutch pedal effort and shift throws) that heavy traffic is no problem at all. If you buy the automatic versus the manual....you may regret it. The manual to me is half the fun in this car! Also $1500 less!

I agree. When I ordered mine, I ordered the M6. My Sales guy, also a good friend, said here, take out this used M6 for the weekend and let me know your thoughts. It was a LOT of fun, until I got stuck in heavy traffic. Needless to say, I ordered the A8 with NO regrets. The paddle shifters are awesome!! JMHO, but I believe you may have answered your own question in your Post....

A8 can drive on 4 cylinders, big savings on fuel, I can get 26 MPG on long drives, around 18 MPG when auto/manual shifting, I manually shift most of the time, very rarely do I use the auto mode. I've had manuals, but todays auto/manual shift is easier and just as much fun.

Using the paddles on an auto will make it just as "slow" as a manual won't it? let the computer do its thing, I doubt the 11.4 was done with using paddles.

The panels on the A8 are the same shift speed as in drive mode but you can hold the car till red line.

I keep seeing ti pop up when I'm into the car a bit performance shift mode and this car slams the hell out of the gears.

It also crackles like lightning when it shifts at high rpm, quite exciting for auto.

Aside from health problems and hating on traffic during commutes, the keyless ignition is always a nice touch.

If this car was not my only car i would have probably bought the M6, but this car has to be extremely user friendly for a guy with hip problems.

Everyone has different tolerances when it comes to manual and traffic / city driving.
Too me, it does not bother me one bit. The clutch is light, smooth and easy to manipulate.
Engagement is butter. Let it out, it grabs lightly, you gain speed, match the creep of traffic, push the clutch back in. Done - simple. Repeat when needed.
You are not doing 300 lb leg presses here, you are pushing a little pedal down.
Maybe technique is an issue.....

...and I get 26.5mpg on long drives

If I were you, M6 without a doubt. No matter what conditions, with exception of high traffic commutes for work. My biggest regret of my 5th gen purchase, was the auto transmission. It takes away some of the fun, it is not responsive, which really bothers me when taking a corner, and sometimes can be dangerous when it abruptly downshifts with my foot too deep on the pedal(trying to get it to drop a couple gears), increasing likelihood of close call with incoming vehicles, and also the gearing, I prefer the manual setup.

Of course the 6th gen auto is much better, but still suffers from similar issues but on a lesser scale, and is more efficient. The M6 has better gearing for me, and the rev match feature is a plus. You won't be disappointed going that route, you will regret the auto route, believe me and us, lol.

But after some issues locating one with the specs that I want, and being somewhat impatient not wanting to wait for one to be built, I am considering the A8 instead since there is much higher available stock of A8 2SS in my area. Also I have about a 140 round trip commute to work and can encounter serious traffic, which after thinking about it, would be easier to deal with having the Auto.

Just looking for some feedback from those who have been driving each style. While I love the M6, I really don't want to end up not enjoying it because I have a crappy commute, but I also don't want to feel like I'm settling for the A8 either.
Not quite the same thing but I drove a 4th gen m6 75 miles a day, some heavy traffic so when I bought my gen5 I went a6, I have now ordered a gen6 m6 in part because I really miss shifting. The gen6 clutch is very light and shouldn't be so bad in traffic imho
