To throw out another term and muddy the water further I think of the Gen 6 Camaro as a Grand Touring car.

Enough power to make you smile off the line.
Enough suspension for a spirited jaunt on back roads.
Enough space for a pair of weekend bags
Enough feedback to enjoy the drive.

Muscle car is a car with no sporty intentions i.e. Handling, braking or acceleration in the base car that then gets a much more powerful engine that primarily resulted in outstanding performance in a straight line. A base Camaro is still expected to perform well, handle well and brake well.

A sports car has two seats. Although the Canaro rear seat is more mingling than ever it remains a 4 seater.

But I realize I am holding on to the traditional definitions.

I believe the Camaro has transcended its Muscle car persona into more of a sports car like the Corvette.
As I considered getting a new car, I strongly considered a corvette, but my best friend kept saying, its not a muscle car. I could care less really however, upon buying the Camaro, I seem to think I still didn't buy a muscle car. I'd classify it as a sports car for its fit, finish and handling. There is room for improvement for sure, but I'm thrilled with this car.

During my 45+ years of car ownership, I have been lucky enough to own a few cars that meets everyone's definition of a sports car ('74 Lotus Europa S for one). While no one would confuse a ~3,700 lb Gen6 with a 1,500 lb Europa, I can tell you that the Gen6 is much easier to live with. I tend to think of the SS as a modern sports coupe'.

My best statement on my feelings about the SS is that I leave tomorrow for a 4,000 mile vacation to South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. I am taking the SS and not taking the Jaguar. I intend on enjoying all of the features, right down to calling OnStar for dinner or hotel reservations. I would never consider such a trip in the Europa or TR8 or TR6 (maybe I have grown out of being a masochist).

I've moved to this platform because it is a little bit of both.

That's not to say my F80 wasn't a great car, but this 2SS I'm getting feels great with the LT1. Even though my M3 is putting down over 500RWHP, the motor just doesn't have that confidence inspiring strength. I definitely won't be saying the same thing with a blown LT1.

Throw some big ol' fat meats on the back and give it a bit of a more aggressive rake and you have a muscle car. Many of the old muscle cars were just cars until you took them and modded them to become muscle cars.

The Gen6 has the handling of a sports car, and if you do nothing to it it will certainly pass as a sports car. Its got plenty of potential however to be a muscle car as well if that's what someone wants do to it.

Poor thread title sorry to make you suffer through it once again. I enjoyed the feedback. My goal was to identify the breakdown between those of us that mod for strip vs. track.

It's easy not endure it, just ignore it and move on.

When you can't decide whether its a sports car or a muscle car .... its a pony car.
