I don't think anyone is losing their minds. The last gen ZL1 was already faster than a base and GS C6, it's pretty much a drivers race between a 5th gen ZL1 and C7 Z51. I expect the new ZL1 to be faster than a base C7 (or C7 w/ Z51) and I will go out on a limb and say the ZL1 will be a tad bit faster than a C7 Z06, but only if it has the Z07 package (keep in mind it's around 4-500 lbs of downforce). I don't see why a 640 HP car won't beat a 460 HP car.
I will say, the Hellcat in the hands of most owners in completely bone stock form is a low 12 or mid 11 second car because you can barely put the power down. The C7 Z51 and base car has been in the mid to low 11s bone stock and the Z06 is a low 11 to mid 10s bone stock. I think the ZL1 will be a mid to high 11s car. |

LMMFAO Laughing at the M4 owners.
![]() I'm going to take one further. I'm thinking the new ZL1 will have more power than the Z06. (I know, I know, it's the Z06 and top dog,......can't happen. My gut tells me it's more than the Z06.) |

I think for once the Camaro is more efficient than the 'Vette, and with GM being pinched and wanting to be cheap asses...the Camaro's are getting the SAME exact motors as BIG BROTHER, but baby brother uses the power better! (they are under-rated on paper only, for the people paying more money for Big Brother) What a Conspiracy theory! |

1) That supercharger whine is a give away. There must be a small pulley on that supercharger and the video of the GM guy giving those magazine writers their first ride in the ZL1, that car really moves out. 2) As Mr. Wyndmare has stated, the horsepower is "estimated" 640HP. When that is the case, the horsepower is almost ALWAYS more than the estimated amount, never less. |

All I can say is....the next year 'Vette will rectify this situation....no way will BIG BROTHER allow this to continue.
'Vette owners will cry and GM will not want to lose $$...this will be a 1 year win for the Camaro Group!lol I'm enjoying every minute of it! |

At that point the ZR1 had been out for a couple years with 600+ HP.

I still don't believe the '17 ZL1 will be advertised with equal or more HP than the C7 Z06. My guess is the final rating of the Zl1 will stay at 640/640 but just like we're seeing with the Gen 6 SS and C7 Stingray, it may dyno with a few more ponies than the Z06.

I think the only time that the F Body was not just as fast (Quarter Mile) than the equivalent Y body was for Gen 5. Gen 1, 2, 3 and 4 all had roughly the same hp (other than the 5 advertise hp GM had to deduct from the F Body to make Corvette owners happy) and roughly the same weight and the advantage of a live rear axle to put the power down.
Gen 5 is when the engineers missed their weight target by more than a few 100s of pounds and the F Bod became mostly a hog.

C'mon - how can anyone seriously think that the '17 ZL1 will be FASTER/quicker than the C7Z?
No way. There is too much differential in weight and aero car vs car, even if the ZL1 does manage to get another 20HP or so. And those hero runs in a supposed 'stock' 5th Gen ZL1 with mid-11's are just that. Hero runs on A6 cars. MOST G5 ZL1s ran a 11.90-12.00 sec 1/4 - at BEST. We ZL1 fans can daydream, benchrace, or even speculate all we want but horsepower to weight and pure physics are impossible to overcome. And I am a definite fan of the new ZL1. But I am also a realist.

From what I've seen and read, the thread is about the ZL1 being faster than a base Vette.
The Z06 and ZR1 were comments about engine power, not speed/quickness. It was also pointed out that the ZL1 did debut with more power than the Z06, but since ZR1 already existed at the time, Corvette still maintained the highest power slot. |

Concur 100% with this. There is no way the 2017 ZL1 will have the same performance as a C7 Z06. Not in a 1/4 mile, 0-60, or on the track. I just can't see it. It will be awesome, no doubt, but not Z06 awesome. |
