Funny times we live in. 10 years ago I'd definitely say that there is no comparison between American made cars and German cars.

Bet it will feel pretty strange pulling up to a BMW knowing that you have the better handling and faster car and that you paid $15,000 less for it.

Of course for some it's all about the brand. I've always been a Levi's guy..... Camaro/Mustang fits my sensibilities.

Unhappy

Since the actual Camaro (Z28, ZL1 &1LE) are already above the performance of the BMW's it will be an easy bet that the next generation Camaro will be even better. BMW has lost the performace competition level VS Cadillac V series and Mercedes AMG models. Chevy now is competing with brands like Porsche and other exotics. What GM has to get a grip is on their quality control because they have not made lately a safe bet with the new LT1, LT4 engines and A8 transmission like we have read on C&D, MT, etc. that the Stingray and Z06 have experienced overheating issues at the track. They could be on TOP of the lap times or not finish at all. I sincerely hope that GM fix these situations before the new '16 Camaro SS reach the showrooms, in order to bring back the trust like with the prior Corvettes and Camaros. I will wait to make my move until this settles down and hopefully I can get an improved 6th. Gen Camaro SS 1LE with an A8 transmission and enjoy my ride, without someone laughing that I did not finish a lap because my car overheated.
GM do your homework and fix it!!

Since you are bringing up exotics.

Overheating is one thing. Literally catching on fire and burning to the ground is taking things to the next level!

Hmm, hadn't seen that review. I'm test driving both back to back anyways. The other contenders will be the upcoming BMW M2, & Alfa Guilia. I really hope the 1LE package for the SS will be available at launch.

Price/performance is hard to compare the Camaro with BMW. Camaro has taken to the track and 1/4 with great times, 4-6-8. You can get similar performance #s from BMW but be ready to spend $$$$$.
IMO it would be tough to see the tail lights knowing I could have had a Camaro.

I definitely like your contenders. Cant wait to see the M2 and curious what the ADM and dealer allocation #s look like. (is it really an attainable 50-60K car?)
My local BMW dealer has the 435i priced at $57K ouch. What is cool is the 6th Gen Camaro performance and improved interior makes it a contender with the higher $$$ market that would include Chevys own C7.
IMO its worth a test drive and walk around.

You know it's funny I'm currently looking at the BMW 228i and will be looking at the 2016 Camaro. On a side note I test drove a Cadillac ATS AWD Luxury model but wasn't impressed to be honest. Maybe it was because it was AWD and not RWD. Back to my original posting and tonight I sat in the 228i and the visibility front and back was excellent. I didn't drive it so I can't comment on the ride but as far interior layout ergonomics are great. The visibility won't be the same in the Camaro and I get that. I hope performance of the Camaro is good. I also hope the seats are better in the Camaro than the ATS because I thought the seats were terrible in the ATS. The 228i sport seats were great in comparison. So I'm actually cross shopping the 2016 Camaro and BMW 228i. I considered the ATS until after the test drive.

That's why I mentioned there are exceptions. But take a good look at the average BMW, Merc, or Audi buyer. They are the same people. Has nothing to do with the Camaro, just that most that buy the German cars are doing so for status. Hence why they don't buy Caddys because the perception they are senior citizen cars. What's funny is that is quickly reversing itself.

I see that you're driving a 14 328i, did you lease the BMW? Because if I do go the BMW I'm leasing it. I would probably lease the 2016 Camaro also.

Yep and probably will lease the Camaro too. At the time I thought I was going to be driving it back and forth to work so the 328i had the best mpg and performance, so it made sense for me. Now I only drive to work a couple times a week so I want to get back into a V8 again. Hence why BMW isn't on my list.

Yeah I'll be driving this work, I'll probably go with the v6 in the Camaro. I'll have to test drive both the turbo 4 and v6.
